  • to be decided - electric cars for the elderly 5 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I am in my 80’s and run an ageing Honda Jazz iShift. Goes very well, but is now 14 years old. My wife drives the car mainly to visit nearby friends all within five mike radius. I use it for getting to a couple of social clubs I belong to.

  • Kia Sportage - Another over designed car. Where's good design? 18 Jun 2021 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2021-06/revealed-all-new-2021-kia-sportage-get-dramatic-redesign/ The current one, like ORB's has always looked bang on to me, and more classy than an Eyoke. Where has simple good design gone to? Mazda seem to get it right, although the 3's C-pillar is on the slab/van thickness side.
  • Estate or SUV - Next family car 18 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I'm on the hunt for the next family car. I've recently found these two models, a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross and a Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSI. Both have decent pull, good mileage and imo impressive MPG. Any thoughts on the two? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101268371434 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101278396329 Also any major considerations to be aware of when it comes to SUVs vs estates?

  • 220 amg line cabriolet. - E class 30 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I have studied the manual but there are so many things to get used to. It drives very nicely and  does mid 40's to a gallon, very comfortable and easy to see out of which wasn't the case with the slk. Had a major service from the main dealers before I got it but after the warranty year runs out it will my trusted indie looking after it.
  • Car care - Your most obsessional lock-down task so far? 12 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Yesterday I removed the TR7's cam cover and spent much of the sunny afternoon removing the carbon deposited on the inside surface from the breather pipe.  Last time it was removed was in 1987 at 41,100 miles to check the valve clearances.

  • Cheap car to modify 6 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Not sure where I should post this but my wife has a 1.6 focus company car so I wanted to look at buying a cheap car or classic car to just use occasionally   I was thinking of a £1000 to buy then spend a bit of money over time customising it to make it a bit different from the usual standard hum drum. I am in my 50's but with a long car history from classics to 4x4s   I am happy to look at anything long as it's different Any suggestions   Cheers
  • Which one for an old car? Mazda or Toyota? 30 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I will use generally for short distance. will there be more difference on mpg? I'm afraid of Mazda 2.0's fuel consumption. :)

  • Kia with a nervous twitch 26 May 2018 (Forum)
On my way to work this morning i passed a current shape Kia Cee'd going the other way and it's n/s daytime running light was flashing rapidly, not actually going on and off, but dull and bright. Made me think it had a nervous twitch, in fact the first thing that popped into my head was (the great) Herbert Lom in the Pink Panther films!.

  • any - Best car you ever drove. 16 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Last year due to a van re designing our Volvo we were loaned...don't ask me why.... a brand new Mecedes S class 3.2 diesel. It has comfort, enough power for anybody, a boot you could get a small sofa in and everything seemed excellent quality. Economy was v good for a large car too.  If money were no object I'd have one tomorrow but the thought of the bills would keep me awake at night.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D - Corsa alarm?? 28 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Seems a strange post given we are no longer in the 1980's but here goes.  Just brought a Corsa 2011 (D) SXi however not sure it has a factory fitted alarm. Before I carry out the usual tests can anyone confirm yes or no? The interia door symbol "red light" stays for a minute or two but then goes out however after some research I believe this only indicates doors are centrally locked.
  • SUV or Cheiftan Tank - Best car to deal with Britains dreadful roads 16 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Following the recent discussion about the state of Britains roads, my question is what car can give a comfortable ride as things deteriorate further. HJ s advice was to not deviate below 55 profile tyres and 16 inch wheels which is a good starting point. From experience I found the MK 6 Golf on 65 profile tyres was just about perfect. But have you any other recommendations?
  • Primera - condensation in rear light... 22 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The car is my son's freshly acquired 2000W Nissan Primera S. It's in gleaming red and at £2495 (50,000mls) looks like a good buy. Just one tiny niggle: I wonder if anyone else has experienced condensation inside the rear-light cover - in particular the bootlid-mounted reversing light?
