  Have noticed during this hot spell that a lot of cars are driving with one or more windows open,I have told my wife never to open windows while the air/con is on as this will overload the unit as it tries to keep the temperture down,am I right in this my thoughts are based on an air/conned bungalow we rented once in Florida where the instructions were to not leave any doors to the outside oped as this would overload the system.Could these drivers be storing up trouble if as I suspect their air/con is on?.

  My air con is blowing out warm air until I have been driving for 20 minutes when it is slightly cooler. Firstly the compressor pulley was found to have come adrift and was bolted back on. A refill made a slight improvement and showed no leaks.

  I have an 04 plate Mazda 3. 18 months ago I got an air-con recharge after noticing the air wasnt cold with the AC on.  after it was recharged the chap said that there was no gas left in there! I find myself in the same position now.   How long does an AC recharge generally last?

  As soon as I switch the air con on my S98 Daewoo Lanos, there's a fairly loud vibrating noise that only stops when i switch it off. Any suggestions what it could be ? as far as i know (have had the can for 18 months) it has never been recharged, thanks

  hi all, my air con pump bearings are making a noise, mainley at low refs but very noticeable, can anybody tell me do i need new pump, how much will it cost to do, could this be why my air con does'nt work, took it to be filled up with gas other day and you could here pump working.....two days later pump does not work and clutch is not spinning, could the bearing also cause the leak of gas?

  The air con on the above doesn't work. I had some new refrigerant put into it a few months ago and at first it worked like a charm, left it over night and the next morning, nothing! I assume from this that I have a leak in the system somewhere.

  I am fairly certain the air-con in my seven year old Mondeo has never been repaired/regassed at all since new, yet it still seems to working fairly effectively if not 100%. I rarely use it winter except to speed up screen de-misting, so it is not as if I have it running regularly outside of the June-August decent weather period....anyone have an older car than mine with air-con that has not needed any work?

  Some 6 weeks ago we had the air-con radiator /heat exchanger replaced after a front impact with motorway debris. The air-con seemed to work OK when we tried it briefly after repair. However, now we are using it regularly, switching it on causes a series of random short vibrations which usually cease after 2 or 3 minutes of running.

  moved from Discussion to Tech Matters I have a 1-yr old Freelander TD4 with an air con problem which seems to mystify the dealership. It was barely 7 days old when the air con system completely discharged. The dealer reseated a pipe but the system has never worked entirely satisfactorily since.

  I own a 2004 Vectra Sri.I am the 2nd owner.When I use the air-con and then turn it off,after a while there is a "stale" smell.It smells like sweaty socks (I imagine).The dealer told me they drained and recharged the system, but it's much the same.How do I get rid of this??

  Hi, I've got a '98 Scenic 1.9dTi with air-con. The heater fan only seems to have one speed, like it's stuck on full blast. All six settings are the same speed. Off works fine! Any idea what could cause this? Thanks!

  My 4+ year old 2.1TD has covered 25,000 miles, and is usually driven with the air-con "on" and the temperature set at 22 degrees. After about 10 miles of driving, the warm air flow turns cold and stays cold, unless the lever is moved to the "red". My Citroen dealer has looked at it twice and can find nothing wrong, implying I don't know how to use it.

  I've looked through the FAQ section of the site but would appreciate any additional advice. When I switch my air con on a get a damp smell which eventually clears. Also if I switch it off while travelling, it tends to steam up the front windscreen and the air gets a warm a damp smell which takes quite a while to disperse!
