  • 2010 Audi TT TDI - 2010 Audi TT starts, then dies after 1 second, 6 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I have just noticed that my Audi dies after 1 second.  The dash cluster DOES NOT respond, or light up, at all! I've disconnected the battery for 10 min, no difference! I've used my spare key, no difference, exactly the same thing happens! It has fuel! I last used it 3 days ago! Theres a 1 inch gap by drivers window, no response from switch!
  • Mk 8 Civic diesel EX - Intermittent horn 8 Sep 2022 (Forum)
Twice in the last month or so, my new horn has failed to work. I bench tested it recently and all seemed fine hooked up to a spare battery. I assumed the horn could have been affected by the recent heatwave. (BTW - it is a right pain to test !)  Today it failed when needed, but immediately worked with the steering wheel moved. I now suspect the "clock spring" in the wheel, but all other button functions work and there are no warning lights ( ie airbag ) lit up.
  • AWD via rear axle motor 2 Jun 2022 (Forum)
But for many AWD hybrid cars, there is no driveshaft and a separate motor spins rear wheels to make it AWD when more traction is necessary. My question is, what happens when traction battery has no charge to spin the rear motor? Does it mean AWD car becomes FWD only? Also, when rear wheels are driven by driveshaft, it is guaranteed that they will rotate at same speed.  But if front and rear axles are unconnected, then somehow the computer needs to ensure that both axles are spinning at same speed.
  • Skoda Superb Estate - Petrol or Plug-in Hybrid Superb estate? 12 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Insurance group and road tax is also different between the two. Upfront cost seems higher for plugin hybrid. But does it break even (battery will get worse over time especially with uk climate) ?  Does it cost more to repair a plugin hybrid because there is both engine and electric motor? With UK government setting their eyes on 2030, are we consumers forced to go electric only?
  • citroen g4 picasso - stop start 14 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I'm having an issue on my 3 and a half year old picasso that I bought 3 months ago and it is going back to the garage for a check in two weeks time but in the mean time I'm looking around to see whats what . So far I've seen stuff about alternator , belt tensioners, starter motor and battery which all make sense , however the question I have is if fixed under warranty ( great ) but is it worth the overall hassle that may come from stop start wear and tear and so far in my research questionable savings and that maybe just turn it off for good AND is it ok to turn it off in the long run.
  • Any - Light Duty Impact Wrench 11 Sep 2020 (Forum)
As long as it isn’t complete junk. a cheap light duty impact wrench that runs off a car battery makes sense for very infrequent DIY use, though it makes no commercial sense if its only available in Taiwan, where the market for such a thing will be tiny. Someone on the local expat forum bought one for a job on his scooter, which it did, but havn't heard anything more.
  • 1976 Earls Court motor show (Thames TV) 6 Sep 2020 (Forum)
And of course given the current market, the electric car near the end has to be mentioned, not so much for the car itself, but for the hopelessly optimistic future predictions of battery range and tehnology (within the next 10 years), a car capable of 80mph with a 500 mile range........!!
  • Honda Jazz 2020 - New Honda Jazz - intiial thoughts 1 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I think the driving dynamics will be much as before, steady and nothing exciting. The mechanicals are now a static petrol engine acting as a generator for batteries and motors plus a boost at motorway speeds. It all seems excessively complicated to justify equivalent MPG of 55-60 and no guarantees all the tech will carry on working for 10 years?  It is still a petrol powered car but seemingly with all the negatives and none of the positive of a 100% EV.
  • Nissan Almera 2003 No way to unlock my car when ? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
Last week I had a major fail. I left the light switched all day and my battery went dead. With a set of jump leads in the boot I thought now problem. Until I realised the is no way to get into the car as it has no manual key locks. I search the net and people spoke about one on the passenger door.
  • honda civic - I just had my 2015 Honda civic detailed and it won 18 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I moved the steeling wheel back to it's normal position but I'm getting the same error code and results. Do I have a battery issue or is this a code problem that will need to be serviced?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.6 revving up and down when idle then stalls 27 Oct 2019 (Forum)
When driving and stopping at a set of lights, foot off accelerator and clutch in, the revs start going up and down from about 500 to 1200 then drops lower and stalls, engine restarts fine, and all ok until next set of lights........... the engine does not do this when cold and the idle revs are higher, problem starts when engine is hot....... plugs, airfilter, battery and oil have all been changed...... Anyone any ideas
  • "Help flash" - rooftop beacon for car breakdowns 15 Oct 2019 (Forum)
(Triangles are still required if a car is broken down near a bend, though.) 2 and a half hours' battery life; can be used from inside the car; useful for motorbikes. What's not to like? I wonder if it'll ever catch on in the rest of the world.
  • Extended warranty, urgent help 2 Sep 2019 (Forum)
No diagnosis charges. I know that tyres, brakes were and tear not included nor are light bulbs or battery and exhaust but everything else I can think of is.   Searching Google I noted that this site spoke highly of WD up until a few years ago.
  • Vauxhall Ampera - About servicing and it give any problems 13 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Hi all Live in Ireland  and some of these coming in second hand .very cheap compared to original price when first came out in UK.what I was told by dealer who's selling that the petrol 1.4 engine can be serviced by local mechanic but if any issues with electric generator or battery system wouldchsve to travel to northern Ireland which is about 5 hours drive which is ok if it doesn't give much problems. Vauxhall  here is opel  in Ireland and opel won't service Vauxhall ampera.
  • Mini service 24 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Don't think they realise who the customer is. Same dealer wanted £50 to charge a battery overnight to check a start/stop fault when we ran one. Not going into a Mini dealer was the best part of selling ours ;-) If the SA wanted service from my daughter's profession and got the same attitude I'm sure it wouldn't be so acceptable.
  • Volvo XC90 - Car not starting on test drive 27 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Ride was good and when we got back I switched the engine off and tried starting the car but it won't start again. This makes me think there is more wrong than just dead battery. I am total novice when it comes to cars so thanks in advance for your wisdom. Regards P
  • SAAB 9-3 Convertible petrol Aero automatic - Car does not start after use . 23 Feb 2019 (Forum)
The warning lights come on but the car will not crank. If I leave the car for about two hours it will immediately start again. I have replaced the battery recently and the car can drive as it should for weeks only for the problem to reoccur. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Alan.
  • Citroen C3 - Trouble starting and resetting date/time 1 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I have just purchased a second hand Citroen C3, 5dr VTR+ 61 plate and I am now experiencing problems when I start it.  It's almost as if it momentarily disconnects from the battery, and it then starts, but my time and date have reset and my windscreen wipers go up and down just for one cycle and then it automatically locks the doors. It's under warranty for 3 months so want to take it back to them and explain the problem, but don't want to be fobbed off due to not knowing about cars, and was hoping someone would know what the problem is likely to be before I take it back.
  • Citroen Picasso - Poor running 2.0 hdi 9 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I replaced the alternator on a friend's 2.0l hdi Picasso. A simple job I thought it also needed a battery as the had been run very low. It started perfectly after replacment and they drove away. The next day they call saying it won' start. I go to investigate and they are nearly correct.  It did start but took forever chasing and chattering.
