  • Hyundai and Kia 30 Dec 2006 (Forum)
We were about to give up and go home, when the salesman pointed out the new Rio, which was a little more expensive, but much more upmarket inside, to my surprise. The 1.4 petrol wasn't too bad to drive, and the suspension was on a par with my Almera. Couldn't quite make up our minds, so went back the other day and had a drive of the diesel Rio. What an engine! I've never felt that level of torque in such a small car before, it's really like a rocket up the a*se!
  • Suzuki Swift 4 May 2006 (Forum)
I like the styling very much, even though it doesn't give as much room inside as a Jazz. My wife wasn't able to drive it, as she didn't have her glasses with her, so she is due to drive it tomorrow morning. I was surprised that the salesman we dealt with didn't even know they had the car in stock, particularly as it is the only used Swift that they have.
  • Can we blame Motoring Org. for accident? 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
It caused damage to her car (written off) the other car at the house (the infamous Fiesta 1.25) and both her and the neighbours houses as well! The situation was as follows - as far as I understand it. Reversed car out of drive one evening after car had been stood for over 24 hours. Car was Hyundai Trajet 2.7V6 auto. When put into Drive, car did not move. After a few attempts to get it to go, she called the motoring organisation .
  • 200,000k miles in a year 5 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I think the thing that swung it for me was the Selby Rail Disaster - there but for the grace of God Go I, and all that. Do others think that it is only a matter of time before another disaster is casued by someone driving professionally, in a non-regulated profession, driving wise, and tachos are enforced on all people who drive long distances as part of their job, whether the job is classified as a driving job or not.
  • Mazda 6 - Noisy! 12 Nov 2004 (Forum)
We're thinking of replacing the wife's Mazda Xedos 9, and having been very happy with Mazdas in general, we decided to have a test drive in a Mazda 6. This was my first test drive ever, and I was pleasantly surprised. No hassle, just show my licence, fill in a quick form and off we went without the salesman. He was even happy for us to put the kids' carseats in the back (we've had problems in the past on this score with them not fitting well).
  • Pro motorist party? 4 Oct 2004 (Forum)
They're also making a big deal about kyoto even though the biggest polluter isn't even signed up so our efforts are just a trump in a tornado. Perhaps liberal minded people who feel others should be allowed to choose what they drive are in the minority and the UK is now filled with interfering busy bodies who want to tell us what to drive, where to drive, how to drive and not let us have anything other than an asthmatic 1.1 litre roller skate.
  • Insurance cover demands - Am I dreaming? 20 Jul 2002 (Forum)
The Background: I have held my full licence since July 1982, and without wishing to tempt fate, have remained accident and conviction free. I currently drive a company car, and have done since August 1994. The problem: SWMBO is aged 29, and has held a full car driving licence since January of this year. A colleague of mine is moving abroad with the company, and is selling his very tidy Pug 406 GLX 2.0 for relative peanuts.

PP should try driving an Alfa Romeo Giulia. If the electronic hand brake is applied in neutral and the foot brake released, the engine will restart.

  • Help me decide! - Advice for a first car?? 16 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I have a budget of around max £2,500. I really like the look of Peugeot 106 (but I have read they’re not great for motorway driving) or citoeren Saxo, particularly the 1.5 Diesel. Also had a look at older Micras and Fiestas. I’m thinking perhaps a diesel would suit me better as I’ll need it for some long distance driving, but I also want to be able to visit cities and I know some now have a diesel ban so I’m considering both diesel and petrol, preferably manual.
  • Import of a used car from EU to UK 12 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I wondered if anyone had definitive answers to some queries I have: I'm considering buying a 40 year old car that's in The Netherlands, driving it to the ferry at Hook of Holland, and from Harwich back to my house.  The car would have a current dutch MOT and whatever their equivalent of Road Tax is, and I would have insurance to cover driving that car in the EU.
  • Help/Advice needed - licence revoked! 13 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Apparently they still prosecuted me in my absence on 04/12 (as my ex hadn't told me anything about it) and gave me 6pts and a £400 fine. Because of a problem with DVLA last year, I retook my test after driving for 16 years as they lost my details!? I had to have licence quickly as I work for the NHS, so I retook my test rather than fight them. So anyway because I got 6 points (in apparently my first 2 years of driving) they have revoked my licence and I can't drive.
  • Audi A3 Sportback - Loss of power, jerking acceleration and smoke 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
This stops after a few seconds, but the car continues to idle loudly with a GRRRRRRRR noise. This later dies down after some driving. Since yesterday, I have also noticed grey/white smoke from the exhaust on cold starts. Hitting the accelerator generates a puff of smoke. This also goes away after some highway driving. This can certainly not be normal, why would the car do it all of a sudden now after the turbo replacement...this started within 100miles of driving after new turbo.
