  • Do we have a basis for a warranty claim for a faulty brake pad sensor in my daughter's Mazda 5? 12 Jun 2010 (Ask HJ)
My step daughter has a Mazda 5 registered in June 2007. It has had an annoying squealing noise from the brakes. The noise comes of its own accord - touch...

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Squealing disc brake. 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Have had this car for a couple of months now, 90k on the clock but in beautiful condition. Since having this car I have noticed a noticable squeak when braking, not all the time, and the brakes work perfectly too, no fluid loss or anything like that. At first I put it down to damp on the discs because it does come and go. The sound is one tone, not rythmic but a steady note.

  • P Reg Accent Brake disk replacement. 7 May 2007 (Forum)
Right I've had a quick read through the workshop manual and according to the write-up in there they go on about removing the "knuckle" assembly (the bit the brake disk, wheel bearing and drive shaft attach to - which in turn itself attaches to the wishbone). It does advise the use of two "special tools" in the process, one for removing the driveshaft from the knuckle (undoing the hub nut then push the shaft inwards through the knuckle), then another for seperating the brake disk from the knuckle.
  • vauxhall vectra brakes binding 8 Oct 2006 (Forum)
As you go along a few miles, you can feel the brakes binding, which loses performance for one thing, and when you disengage clutch, the car will come to a stop, even down a hill. Eventually, the brakes will ease off slightly for a few miles, before happening again.
  • brakes that don't brake, but break 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My belief is that as the car weighs ~1000kg the brakes are underspecified for the job - i believe it uses the same set-up as a mk3, just with a greater amount of servo assistance, which means more energy to be diserpated through a tiddly piece of steel.
  • Golf 1.4 Mk7 - Break pad wear at 27k miles 13 Jul 2021 (Forum)
My previous Civic pads were flagged up around 30k. And again at 70k, when discs also were needed. Fair play to VW! I will have the brakes given a proper old fashioned service by my indie soon and he can change the fluid then. I know opinions differ re brake fluid changes but paying for one change during my tenure seems worthwhile.

Turned the ignition on and lowered the spoiler and the brake lights stayed on. Turned the ignition off and the spoiler went up with the brake lghts still on and the roof motor trying to operate.
  • Honda Civic - Honda rear brake calipers. 28 Nov 2016 (Forum)
My dilema is, should a car only 4 years old and with only 25,000 miles need new brake calipers and if so should this not be classed as a vehicle defect and done free of charge. I might add that I bought the car brand new, any advice would be greatly appreciated. regards James.

  • Ford C-MAX 2.0 TDCI Ghia - C-Max Flat Battery 28 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I have checked the drain on the battery and found it to not go below about 300mA, removing fuses one at a time it looks like removing the fuse for the electronic parking brake reduces the current to a reasonable level. Does the parking brake always cause this much current or should it turn off after the brake has been applied? Could the issue be a calibration problem with the brake?
  • Premature brake wear on a Polo 24 Feb 2012 (Ask HJ)

  • Ford focus 2007 - Loss of power when braking 14 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I've had my 07 focus for about 6 months. Have only noticed in the past few months that there is an intermittent fault when braking - sometimes it loses power when braking in a slow traffic (e.g. stop start). Some times the revs will drop and the car will shudder slightly (almost as if the clutch isn't all the way down, when it is), sometimes the revs will drop and the battery light will flash on, and on a few occasions the revs have dropped and engine has completely cut out.
  • Ford Fiesta 1998 - Dragging brakes after new drums and shoes 30 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I have an old Ford Fiesta thats done 120k, the handbrake had been very poor recently and after some failed attempts to fix it I bit the bullet and both the drums and shoes yesterday. The handbrake now works great (hurray!) but the brake shoes seem to be touching the drums all the time, even with the handbrake cable fully slack.  I was hoping it would loosen up after a bit of driving, instead the drums were getting hot and one of the rear brakes then starts making a clunking noise at low speeds.
