A Grand Monday: Mercedes-Benz C180 15 Aug 2016 (News)
As a result, they were nowhere near as durable nor as rust-resilient as their forebears, yet on the flipside were far more dynamic to drive. Indeed, the 1993-1999 C-Class W202 was the most agile mid-size Mercedes ever, winning quite a bit of praise early in its life for giving the model a much more European, lightweight feel. -
Get that old car smell 18 Jul 2016 (News)
The smell itself really takes me back to my uncles Rover P4; if I close my eyes it feels like the 80’s again. This smell will take any car enthusiast back to the good old days, even if you're driving a 61 plate Ford Focus.' Dawn Holmes, Marketing Manager from the Classic vehicle division of Carole Nash, said. 'We’ve been overwhelmed by the response and interest in helping us to create the ultimate ‘Old Car Smell’ and are delighted with the final fragrance. -
Skoda Octavia Estate vRS (2005-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
This Octavia vRS may be getting on in years, but it still has plenty going for it and remains as great to drive as it ever was – even as an estate. Other vRS models in detail Click on a model for more > Back to main page -
Skoda Octavia vRS TDI (2006-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
Whereas the PD engine would lag at low revs, giving you no power before suddenly shoving you forward with a big smack of torque, the common rail unit is more linear. As a result, it’s nicer to drive day to day and slightly faster from 0-62mph taking 8.3 seconds compared to the previous 8.5 seconds. That said, it’s a bit of a shame that it lacks the aggressive manner of the old engine which was part of its charm. -
Skoda Fabia vRS (2010-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The TSI packs plenty of punch - like a race horse punching its way out of a paper bag – and is always huge fun to drive, revving happily all the way to the red line without running out of steam. Unusually, the Fabia vRS comes with a DSG gearbox as standard – there’s no manual available. The twin-clutch gearbox is a variant of the one used in the Octavia but has been tweaked to fit with the smaller TSI engine and as a result has a seemingly excessive seven speeds. -
Skoda Octavia vRS (2013-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
On the road the Octavia is a revelation compared to the standard car with much improved steering feel and a sharper nature through corners. It's a very enjoyable car to drive yet is still usable every day thanks to a supple ride and easy controls. To make it stand out from the standard model, the vRS gets honeycomb design air intakes, a bespoke front bumper and fog lights along with xenon headlights. -
Rare 1960s Costin-Nathan race car heads to auction 1 Jun 2016 (News)
I’m probably dewy eyed having raced one quite extensively in the 60’s. From a personal angle, the car as an Imp engined GT was a delight to drive, very quick in its class with neutral handling.’ A collaboration between engineer and aerodynamicist Frank Costin and gifted racer and tuner Roger Nathan, work on the Costin-Nathan project began in 1965 with the prototype making its debut at the following January’s Racing Car Show. -
A Grand Monday: Saab 900i 11 Apr 2016 (News)
According to the seller, it’s ‘due to having purchased the car on a whim in January this year with the intention of using it as my daily drive, but I missed my 9-5 too much, so have purchased a 9-5 Aero. Now need the garage space.’ If you’re serious about going to look at this Suffolk-based car, then make sure you check for signs of a blown head-gasket (often given away by a mayonnaise-like substance around the oil filler cap caused by the oil and water mixing). -
A Grand Monday: Mk1 Toyota MR2, £850 14 Mar 2016 (News)
These Japanese two-seaters represent great value for money at the moment – they’re great fun to drive, look suitably retro, but are pretty reliable. And, best of all, you can still get one for under a grand. Just. As you might expect, the big thing to watch out for on these cars is rust – especially under all that plastic bodykit. -

Land Rover to celebrate iconic Series and Defender at Revival 18 Aug 2015 (News)
This fascinating Land Rover was built by Bertam Mills Circus in the late 1950s. It was designed to give the impression that the circus elephant, named Kam, was driving the car. In addition, 11 of the owners of pre-production Land Rovers have confirmed that they are to participate in the celebration weekend. The vehicles, which all descend from the famous pre-production vehicle number one, ‘HUE 166’ are believed to be the largest number of pre-production vehicles ever seen in motion. -
A Grand Monday: Peugeot 406 Coupe V6 £450 13 Jul 2015 (News)
Over the past eight years, it has been well looked after and comes with plenty of service history, including a cambelt change at 141k. Its most recent service was in March, 2015. We’re told it runs and drives very well and is in good condition, but the lacquer has peeled on the bonnet and roof. Oh, and did we mention the engine? It’s the 3.0-litre V6 with the manual gearbox. That means it’s good for 0-62 in 7.3 seconds. -

Racing Astons return to Hotel de France after 52 years 2 Jun 2015 (News)
From 1953 until 1963, the Hotel de France at La Chartre-sur-le-Loir was the base of the Aston Martin team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Drivers and mechanics would prepare their cars in the hotel’s courtyard and then drive them on public roads to the famous circuit – now history has repeated itself. On Monday, after two days of testing at the Le Mans circuit, three of this year’s Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTEs and their drivers, Darren Turner, Richie Stanaway and Mathias Lauda, recreated some of the famous photographs and film footage from the 1950s of the cars being prepared at the hotel and leaving for Le Mans. -
Review: Gecko Pad 30 Mar 2015 (News)
We stuck ours to the dashboard of a car and then attached a phone to it. The phone stayed put over bumps, around corners and for the duration of a four-hour drive, however after a bit of tinkering we found that it prefers a fairly smooth surface. It will still stick to the textured or soft-touch plastics in a car but if they are heavily curved a phone is unlikely to remain in place for too long, so find somewhere fairly flat. -

‘Blue Train’ Bentley to star at Paris classic car show 4 Feb 2015 (News)
He arrived at the Conservative Club in St James, London for a celebratory drink having passed the clock at Victoria Railway Station at 15.30 the next day, four minutes before the train was due to arrive in Calais, having averaged 43.43mph driving on pre-motorway roads.
