The Back Room Poll 16 May 2003 (Forum)
And if a particular issue comes up, we\'ll consider changing the poll mid-week in order to run a \'special\'. The Back Room Poll will appear at the top level of the forum. Martyn [Back Room moderator] ==================== mailto:webmaster@honestjohn.co.uk -
Rover 820 Oil Loss 3 May 2003 (Forum)
My immediate reaction was to take the spark plugs out assuming the worst on one of the cylinders but apart from being slightly sooty from running a little overrich, they were fine and not "wet" or clogged/sooted up from oil as I would expect with this kind of oil loss. The car also runs and sounds fine. Next step to look at is the crankcase vapour recirc filters and valves but surely this would also be gunging the plugs up if it was forcing oil into the intake? -
Mini charging problem 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
First thanks to everyone who contributed to my running on problen I seem to have it sorted out, I bet i have spoken too soon now but at least if it returns i know how to deal with it. What is more of concern/annoyance is my charging problem. I'm terrible with electrics, the alternator when the engine is running gives 14v but the voltage at the battery/starter solenoid is only what is left in the battery 12.5v when I have charged it but only 9.7v after i drove from Newcastle to Leeds. -
Cheap Motoring 28 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I roughly average about 42 mpg and this costs me around £50 a week in fuel. However, while the engine is still running like brand new (well running anyway!) the body is having trouble hanging onto it! Therefore, I am in the market for either a new car, or to do what I am currently doing, buying bangers! I am now considering whether to spend the same amount of cash (£5-800) on another cheap and cheerful, or to splash out a couple of thousand and aim for something like a Mondeo diesel. -

Baa Codes. 17 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The "pulse" of opposing traffic died out and still we waited, waited and waited. Anyway the passanger of the car in front got out, I thought "strange" only to run back, get in and the driver to pull out past the bus, I of course followed to find ourselves short of the lights by about 15 meters, which were happily running through the sequence on their own. The bus had obviously broken down (or something) just short of the lights, ended up chuckling to myself about the sheep like qualities of drivers - including myself. -
Ford diesel 1600 problem 3 Jan 2002 (Forum)
He has checked that there is power going to the cold start device and fuel cut off solenoid. He has checked that the cam belt isn't snapped. Consequently he has now run out of ideas as to to why it won't start and would be grateful for any suggestions as to what may be wrong with the car and why it won't start. I thank you for any assistance you may be able to render. -

Dear John M.reg. panda 1000 c.c. manual box. This car has very little power when reaching normal running temperiture, but up to reaching normal temperiture runs like a little rocket. At 30m.p.h. in fourth gear there is no power at the accelerater, you have to change down to third to get any responce at all. -
Oil Additives - Any good? 12 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Negative equity re the finance means the cars will have to run to about 120,000 (very hard) miles before they can be replaced. Is it worth using oil an oil additive to preserve engine life? Are they just a bit of clever marketing, or do they really make a difference? -
