Breakdown services Investigated 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
If you don't want to watch the JC/KL debate, also on tonight is Rogue Traders at 20:30, on BBC1 - Investigating the shady practices of the breakdown service patrolmen. For example telling several customers who's battery's are flat that they need a new one, where in fact all that's needed is a recharge. -
Volvo 850T5 central locking remote 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Hi Chaps/Chapesses, my brother's 850T5's r/c key fob is playing up. Is it a case of change the battery (there's no obvious way of opening the unit) or something more complicated ? BTW the only markings on it are: Metra System V - M100RC. Any thoughts anyone? -

Corsa C (51 Plate) Easytronic - Vauxhall Corsa C Easytronic Losing Power/Gear 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I know the age of the car means it just might be the major failure that brings it to an end and it's clearly not worth the £600-£1000 I've seen for replacing the clutch/gears etc, but I read a post today around someone getting ECU issues after a flat battery so as a bit of straw clutch I'm wondering where the disconnection of the battery has done anything? I'm resigned to having to take it into the dealership but I wanted to ask the following to anyone who can help: 1) What does P1700 actually mean is wrong i.e. what part of the car is it likely to be; connected to the battery being disconnected or Easytronic issue - what does SVS request via CAN B-06 mean? -
renault clio 1.2 2002 petrol 80k - Clio Intermittently cutting out and not starting 18 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Towards the end of June it began randomly refusing to fire, this problem worsened and in July i took it for a diagnostic which resulted in a new starter motor and crankshaft sensor. The car worked fine until the following morning when the battery died and kept dying after jumpstarting it. After taking it back to the garage they ran a few tests and said the battery wasnt holding its charge therefore I had a new battery. All was rosy until two weeks ago when the car decided to delay firing, followed by not firing, followed by not even turning over, the lights and windows etc still working fine. -

Dacia Sandero Stepway - Car won't start after airbag issues 2 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I stupidly didn't think it was a failure until today (my fault I know) but since finding out, I've tried to fix it. I disconnected the battery from the car, and checked the airbag wires under the seat, made sure they were all connected. Then reconnected the battery and now the car won't start After doing this, I checked the fuses (should have done that first) and the airbag fuse was blown, so I replaced it and it blew again. -
ANY ICE-powered vehicle - Compact Jump Start Packs 13 Jul 2022 (Forum)
GF persuaded me to buy one of those Lithium jump starter packs from Costco. Deltran "Battery Tender" brand. User Manual of course all in Chinese, and the (US) company seems to have an unusually flakey website that more than half the time doesn't find the products, but I managed to hit a window of opportunity to download a pdf. -

Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 MK1 (W reg) - Drivebelt Squealing and Smoke 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
MyFord Focus has been off the road since late Oct 19 after the MOT expired. I tried to start it after recharging the battery which I'm pretty sure needs replacing as it's 6 years old . The engine started immediately; but there was squealing from what seems to be the drivebelt followed by smoke. I tried another similar but larger battery (70 amh) which whilst not new it had been fully charged, although I've been told it only holds a charge for 3 days. -
2009 Ford fusion 1.4 diesel climate - Replacing my turbo/buying online 12 Mar 2020 (Forum)
After being in the garage my power and acceleration abilities were reduced and had to jump the car in the days following the injector seal replacement. Took it back to the garage and my battery was somehow b*****ed and my turbo is now not working. They said there is some play in the fan inside the turbo and that is the problem. After already spending 400 on injector seals and battery they quoted me 700 to do the turbo. -

Car left on Driveway for 2 years unused advice 6 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2004 Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI SE that I did not use left on my driveway for 2 years. Just been so busy that I didn't get to it until today. Well obviously the battery was totally dead so I put a new battery in today and I tried to start the car but I get a red error message on dashboard saying STOP check coolant. So I checked the coolant reservoir in engine bay and its empty. -
VW 1.2 Polo 54 plate 70,000 miles - Engine management light on 3 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I change the oil as someone said give it a new oil service and plugs I did this and it ran ok for few weeks but the lights back on. I have had it plugged in and it has fault codes for mis Fire on cylinder, low battery drive and oxygen failure so fitted new battery I'm now fairly convinced it maybe the lambda sensor as the engine ticks and runs fine but the light stays on. Is it worth spending more money on a new sensor??? -
Mazda 323 - screeching belt 2 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi, can anyone please help, im at the end of my tether. last year my fan belt started making screeching noises, then just before Christmas the belt broke, we got it replaced then a few days later the new one started screeching too, we tried lubricants etc, to no avail. Then the car started to lose power so the battery was checked and it was fine, so we were told it was probably the alternator. So we got a second hand one put in and for two days it worked fine, then the screeching started again and the again ther battery wouldnt charge. the garage said the alternator wasnt working, so we got a new alternator and for 2 days it worked fine, then the screeching was back, so the garage said it can only be the water pump now, so replaced it free for us, ive just picked it up from the garage and less than a mile down the road the screeching has started again. mechanic has just said hes tested everything and it seemed fine so he is completely baffled..... -
