The updated VW ID.3 will be renamed the ID.3 Neo

  • VW ID.3 will be known as the ID.3 Neo
  • Second facelift due later this year
  • New car will have a revised look and higher-quality interior
  • Upgrades for other VW ID cars, too

Volkswagen is giving the ID.3 electric hatchback a new name when it gets its new look during its second mid-life facelift.

Due for a full reveal in April, the revised car will be known as the ID.3 Neo, a name that harks back to the ID.3's code name when it was under development.

First launched in 2020, the VW ID.3 has already had a facelift in 2023. This year's refresh will focus on interior quality and a revised exterior design, as these sketches show.

The revised car will have an upgraded Travel Assist feature that includes traffic-light detection, and physical buttons on the steering wheel, moving away from the touch controls that many users have found annoying.

The arrival of the VW ID.3 Neo also coincides with a raft of updates to the rest of the VW electric car range, namely the ID.4, the ID.5 and the ID.7. They can now be ordered with new software featuring the Innovision infotainment system, which includes an integrated app store for downloading audio, video and game apps. It also supports a digital vehicle key, accessible using a smartphone or smartwatch.

The VW ID.4 and ID.5 will get an upgraded drive system with 190PS as well as a new 58kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batter, which increase their efficiency and range by up to 25 miles. New ID models also get Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability to power external appliances up to 3.6kW directly from the car's battery.

Can I fit run flat tyres to my Volkswagen ID.3?

Can I fit run flats to my 2023 VW ID3 Pro?
Technically it would be possible to fit run flat tyres to your Volkswagen, but to do so may require some compromises in terms of the type of tyre you select and your vehicle's performance. Depending on the exact specification of your ID.3 it could be fitted with 18, 19 or 20 inch wheels, but from the factory it is fitted with tyres that have a speed rating of T, which is a maximum of 118mph reflecting its limited top speed as an electric vehicle. Broadly speaking, run flat tyres tend to come in high performance specification where handling, grip and high speed capability are paramount, whereas the tyres currently fitted to your car are designed for low rolling resistance, and are relatively narrow for their size. To fit run flats to your car would require a significant change in tyre size, which would potentially change the ride quality, handling characteristics and range of your vehicle, so we would only advise doing so after consulting with a reputable tyre fitter to find a suitable size for your vehicle.
