Cupra reveals facelifted Born

  • Facelifted electric hot hatch gets sharper looks
  • Larger digital instrument panel
  • Range boosted up to "around 372 miles"

Cupra has revealed the facelifted Born electric hot hatch, with shaper looks and new tech and interior upgrades. The mid-life facelift comes nearly five years into the Born's life, having first been revealed in mid-2021.

As well as revised exterior looks there are interior changes too, with various revisions including a new larger digital driver display, upgraded sound system. Cupra promises that the top-spec Born VZ will have a driving range of "around 372 miles".

The Spanish brand, which is a spin-off of SEAT, will hope the revisions to the Born will keep it competitive against myriad rivals, from the soon-to-be upgraded Volvo EX30 and the Kia EV3 to the also-soon-to-be-updated Volkswagen ID.3, with which the Born shares numerous parts.

Production for the revised Cupra Born starts in Germany in the second quarter of the year, and it should go on sale in the summer. We should soon hear about pricing; expect a small increase on the current starting price of £34,190, which includes the £1500 Electric Car Grant.

2026 Cupra Born styling, interior and technology

Looks-wise, the revised Born sports triangular matrix LED headlights for the first time (which maintain high beam while blocking off oncoming traffic to avoid dazzling drivers), and an illuminated logo at the back, much like the rest of the Cupra range.

There's a new grille and extra copper-coloured features – a Cupra signature – as well as redesigned bumpers, a bigger diffuser and new 19-inch and 20-inch wheel designs with wider tyres than before, as well as illuminated door handles. At the back, there's an illuminated Cupra logo incoporated into the rear lights.

Inside, there's a redesigned steering wheel featuring physical controls rather than haptic feedback surfaces, and the digital driver display has been boosted in size from 5.3 inches to 10.25 inches. An augmented reality head-up display is also included.

The sound system has been upgraded to a new Sennheiser Contrabass system, and there's also a new Interior Sound Signature (the synthesised noise you hear while driving to replace engine noise).

New safety systems complement the other upgrades, with a new Crossroad Assist system, and upgraded automatic emergency braking.

2026 Cupra Born motors, batteries and range

2026 Cupra Born

There are three power options on the revised Cupra Born. The Born V1 and V2 can be specced with one of two setups. One develops 190PS and uses a 58kWh battery for a range of around 279 miles – that's slightly down on power from the outgoing model, which had 204PS, but the range is improved from 264 miles. The maximum DC charging power of this smaller battery hasn't yet been revealed.

The other V1 and V2 choice is unchanged, with a 231PS motor with a 79kWh battery, but its range is boosted to around 372 miles from 346, and can charge at up to 185kW, up from 135kW.

The top-spec VZ uses the same battery and has the same range, but puts out more power at 326PS. All versions now get a one-pedal drive mode with stronger regenerative braking.
