Changan Deepal S05 is a 300-mile EV for £37,990
- New all-electric small SUV
- Choice of rear- and all-wheel drive, up to 303-mile range
- Prices start at £37,990
- On sale from 1 March
Changan's second UK car goes on sale next month. The Changan Deepal S05 is a small SUV to take on cars like the Kia EV3 and the MG S5 and follows on the heels of the larger Deepal S07.
Priced from £37,990, the Deepal S05 an all-electric model with a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), two battery options and a range of up to 303 miles.
Headlines for the new car include a five-star safety rating from independent safety organisation Euro NCAP, and a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, as well as a generous level of standard specification.
Although the starting price is higher than some models, Changan hopes the Deepal S05's premium feel will tempt buyers away from more established brands. Kia's EV3, for example, starts at just over £33,000, although at that price it has a smaller battery, power range and fewer standard features.
2026 Changan Deepal S05 price and release date

You can order the new Changan Deepal S05 from 1 March. Prices start at £37,990 for the entry-level RWD MAX model, while the AWD MAX costs from £39,990.
2026 Changan Deepal S05 styling, interior and technology

Changan calls the Deepal S05 "scuplted" and "elegant", with its lines drawn up by the firm's European design centre in Turin, Italy. It's designed to be aerodynamic and inspired by aircraft, with a drag coefficient of 0.25Cd. Features include frameless doors, flush door handles and slim LED lights that stretch the full width of the car.
You can order the Deepal S05 in one of five colours – Mercury Silver, Moonlight White, Deep Space Black, Ganymede Grey or Andromeda Blue – all of which are included as standard. You can also add a panoramic roof for £1000, and a detachable tow bar for £600.
Inside, there are two colour options – orange of black – both as standard. The design is, Changan says, "calm, spacious and highly refined", with a generous level of standard spec across both RWD and AWD models. All cars get heated and ventilated front seats, with the front passenger seat reclining and featuring an extendable leg rest. Expect soft-touch materials galore, and vegan leather on the seats.
Infotainment comes via a 15.4-inch central touchscreen that can be angled towards or away from the driver to reduce glare. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, as is a head-up display and a 14-speaker sound system.
The boot measures 492 litres in capacity, expandable to 1250 litres if you fold down the back seats. There's also a huge 159-litre "frunk" under the bonnet.
2026 Changan Deepal S05 motors, batteries and range

Changan has kept things simple with the Deepal S05 – there's one trim, and you can choose from the RWD model or the AWD model.
Both versions use a 68.8kWh lithium-ion-phosphate battery with a 303-mile range on the RWD model and a 278-mile range on the AWD, according to official WLTP figures.
The RWD model uses a single electric motor produicing 272PS and 290Nm of torque, giving it a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds. The dual-motor AWD model has 435PS and 502Nm, which makes for a 5.5-second 0-62mph time. Both models top out at 112mph.
Changan says the RWD model can manage 3.9 miles per kWh, although AWD figures haven't been released – they'll be slightly lower.
Both versions can charge at up to 200kW using a DC fast charger, and Changan quotes a 30% to 80% charge in 15 minutes. AC charging is supported up to 11kW. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is supported, powering external appliances at up to 6kW using the car's battery and a three-pin socket.
Changan has tuned the Thai-built UK-spec Deepal S05 specifically for British roads using its R&D centre in Birmingham, and the company promises "confident handling, comfort and refined dynamics".
