New engine for Renault Captur, plus new trims for Captur and Symbioz

  • New Captur TCe 115 petrol engine
  • Replaces TCe 90 engine and delivers more power
  • Entry-level Captur also gets new Esprit Alpine trim
  • Symbioz mild-hybrid model gets new Techno Esprit Alpine trim

Renault has upgraded the entry-level engine for its Renault Captur small SUV, ditching the old TCe 90 petrol unit for a new TCe 115 unit.

As the names suggest, the change boosts power from 90PS to 115PS with 190Nm of torque from the three-cylinder, 1.0-litre engine, which is attached to a six-speed manual gearbox. Emissions are provisionally rated as 130g/km.

As well as the new engine, the Renault Captur also gets a new trim. Called Esprit Alpine, it adds a sporty edge to the entry-level Renault Captur and was previously only available on the full-hybrid Renault Captur E-Tech 160 model.

It gets upgraded features including 19-inch wheels, a sportier bodykit, electrically adjustable front seats and a heated steeting wheel, without having to spend almost £3000 extra on the E-Tech hybrid.

The larger Renault Symbioz also has a new trim and engine combo, with the mid-spec Techno Esprit Alpine now available on the mild hybrid 140 model for the first time. This comes with more features than the standard Techno trim, which was previously the highest-spec model available with that engine.
