All-new Renault Clio is bigger and petrol-powered

- All-new Clio has a bold new look
- Latest model is longer, wider and more upmarket
- 391-litre boot is one of the largest in the class
- Petrol and full hybrid available at launch
Renault has whipped the covers off the all-new sixth-generation Clio. Longer and wider than Clios of the past, the new model has a bold new front-end look and coupe-inspired lines for a sporty look. Inside, Renault says it’s more upmarket, with a new dual-screen infotainment system, up to 29 different driver assistance systems and a big 391-litre boot.
At launch, there will be a petrol version and a full hybrid that promises a fuel economy above 72mpg. When it goes on sale – probably in early 2027 – it’ll compete with traditional rivals like the Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo, and with its new larger dimensions could also be an alternative to larger hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf and Honda Civic.
2027 Renault Clio prices and release date
No prices or firm release dates have yet been confirmed for the new Renault Clio, but we can expect to see it arrive in the UK early in 2027.
2027 Renault Clio styling, interior and technology
The design of the new Clio – which is larger than the model it replaces – is more sculpted and coupe-esque, with influence from Renault’s Embleme concept car that was revealed last year. It has a sportier stance and silhouette and more dynamic design lines, which are intended to give it more visual presence, befitting the more premium image that Renault wants the new Clio to have.
Up front, a large diamond-pattern grille dominates the front end, with daytime running lights shaped like bisected diamonds. The door handles are hidden in the C-pillars and the back end sports a sloping window with an integrated roof spoiler and sculpted tail lights. Black wheel arch trims and optional 18-inch alloy wheels add to the sporty vibe.
The interior borrows elements from the latest Renault 4 and Renault 5, namely the 10.1-inch infotainment screen and the digital driver display, which can be ordered with various Google services built in. The small steering wheel is taken from the Rafale SUV for a sportier feel. Renault says the interior materials have been upgraded, and there is a 48-colour ambient lighting system included as standard.
On the top-tier Esprit Alpine trim, recycled and eco materials make up over 85% of the interior.
Renault says that the cabin of the new Clio can comfortably seat five adults. The boot in the petrol model is sizable at 391 litres, although it’s smaller in the hybrid model because the various battery components encroach into the cargo area. The boot aperture should be more practical than before – the loading sill has been lowered by 40mm to make it easier to load heavier items.
2027 Renault Clio engines, performance and fuel economy
The new Renault Clio will have two engine options at launch. The first is the full-hybrid E-Tech powertrain, which uses a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery, all managed by a multimode intelligent gearbox. This setup delivers a total of 160PS and will manage the benchmark 0-62mph sprint in 8.5 seconds, and promises an impressive 72.4mpg with 89g/km of CO2.
Renault says the hybrid can drive in electric mode for up to 80% of the time in city traffic, and has a gearbox derived from technology used in Formula 1, with 15 different motor/engine pairing combinations to optimise efficiency and performance.
The second, entry-level option is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with 115PS and 190Nm, paired with a manual gearbox. It’ll hit 62mph in 10.1 seconds and promises 56.5mpg with 114g/km of CO2.
How big is the new Renault Clio?
The new Renault Clio measures 4116mm in length and 1768mm in width, with a height of 1451mm – considerably larger in all dimensions than the outgoing model.
