The new Peugeot e-208 GTI brings back the famous hot hatch brand for the electric era as a full EV.
Boasting a 280PS output, the new Peugeot e-208 GTI has an abundance of power, but there’s plenty more besides.
In authentic hot hatch tradition, the new Peugeot e-208 GTI also has plenty of vivid styling details both outside and in, including an array of bright red GTI logos. It even gets red carpets...
Extensive chassis engineering should mean the new Peugeot e-208 GTI handles with plenty of ability, too. These range from wider tracks front and rear, to an authentic limited-slip differential.
The new Peugeot e-208 GTI uses the same 54kWh battery as regular Peugeot e-208, for a range of 217 miles.
The new Peugeot e-208 GTI will take on a small but growing range of electric hot hatches, including the MINI John Cooper Works, the forthcoming Alpine A290, and the Abarth 600e. There are also rumours of a Vauxhall Corsa GSE.
2026 Peugeot e-208 GTI prices and release date

The Peugeot e-208 GTI has been fully revealed, but it’s not quite ready to reach showrooms yet. It is expected to be released in early 2026.
With even the entry-level Peugeot e-208 costing nearly £30k, the new Peugeot e-208 GTI won’t be quite as affordable as the classic Peugeot 205 GTI was. Expect prices to approach £40,000.

The new Peugeot e-208 GTI will not be confused with any other e-208. This is a good old-fashioned GTI makeover, with black wheelarches, plenty of red pinstriping and a bold set of alloy wheels with classic ‘GTI’ logos from the 1980s.

The new Peugeot e-208 GTI has lowered suspension and the wheels fill the arches more generously thanks to its wider tracks. Naturally, there’s a large roof spoiler and rear diffuser, but we can’t help but think Peugeot’s missed a trick by not fitting ‘GTI’ logos to the C-pillars, a la 205 GTI.

The new Peugeot e-208 GTI will be available in an exclusive bright red paint colour, which the firm says is a nod to the iconic red of the first 205 GTI.

Inside, the new Peugeot e-208 GTI is even more exciting. Praise be, it has red carpets! And red seatbelts, and an abundance of red detailing, along with a new-era touch of red ambient lighting (seven other colours are available).
The new Peugeot e-208 GTI uses the firm’s ultra-small ‘i-Cockpit’ steering wheel. This is trimmed in Alcantara and carries a GTI logo.

The new Peugeot e-208 GTI has a set of deep bucket seats, trimmed in upholstery that harks back to the 1980s. The central red trim references the 205 GTI 1.9, while the red mesh on the right side is similar to that on later 205 GTI 1.6.
The new Peugeot e-208 GTI’s central display can also display four extra dials, in yet another nod to the 205 GTI. They display power, battery level, battery temperature and voltage.
2026 Peugeot e-208 GTI engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Peugeot e-208 GTI certainly has no shortage of power. The electric motor, which is produced in France, produces 280PS, along with a healthy 345Nm of torque. This serves up 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and a limited top speed of 112mph.
It has a best-in-class power-to weight ratio of 175PS per tonne. This, for the record is 33PS more per tonne than even the original Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9.
The new Peugeot e-208 GTI combines this potent motor with a 54kWh battery. This gives a range of 217 miles and 100kW DC rapid charging will take it from 20-80% in under 30 minutes.
As for the chassis, the new Peugeot e-208 GTI has widened tracks both front and rear – 56mm and 27mm respectively. The body is also lowered 30mm, while springs and dampers are combined with bespoke hydraulic stops. There’s a rear anti-roll bar too.

The new Peugeot e-208 GTI has 18-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The distinctive wheels hide 355mm four-piston front brakes which boast red calipers.
Handling will be further boosted by the new Peugeot e-208 GTI’s standard limited-slip differential. The ESP also has a specific Sport mode that disables driver assistance systems.
We look forward to more details of what makes the new Peugeot e-208 GTI special in the build-up to its launch – including the extent to which the Peugeot Sport team has used its experience to create an authentic hot hatch experience in a modern electric car.
