Geneva Motor Show 2016: DS teases E-Tense supercar

Published 01 March 2016

DS has unveiled the all-electric E-Tense concept. The electric sports car was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show and features a 402PS electric motor that is capable of covering 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. Top speed lies north of 150mph.

It's not clear if the E-Tense concept will ever make production - or how much it will cost - but its launch gives a significant mark of intent that DS is looking to build its first high performance car. Given its involvement in Formula E, it's perhaps not surprising that the DS E-Tense is all-electric.

The electric powertrain will produce 516Nm of torque and be capable of reaching a top speed of 155mph, while bespoke Michelin Pilot Supersport tyres will work with the double wishbone suspension to maintain positive road handling.

Lithium-ion batteries are situated under the carbon fibre chassis to improve handling by keeping the centre of gravity low. The E-Tense will weigh 1.8 tonnes and boast an electric range of 190 - 220 miles, although DS doesn't state how long the batteries will take to charge.

Like most motor show concepts, the exterior is bold and futuristic, with aggressive sweeping lines and large air vents. The front is dominated by a huge grille and sleek LED headlights that will rotate 180 degrees to provide a complete view of the road at night. Cameras replace the rear window, displaying the rear view via a 10-inch infotainment display when requested.
