Top safety rating for Kia Sorento

Wed, 26 Aug 2009
UK car insurance customers can get their hands on one of the safest SUVs on the road from next year.

The new Kia Sorento, which will launched in the UK next year, has been given the maximum five stars for safety in EuroNCAP crash tests.

It received an 84 per cent score for protecting child passengers, while adult occupant protection was scored 87 per cent.

The new Kia Sorento is the third vehicle from the car manufacturer to get five stars in the tests. The other two were the 2009 Kia Soul and the Kia cee'd back in 2007.

Achieving a five-star rating is a "landmark achievement", according to Kia Motors UK's managing director Michael Cole.

He added: "[The] new Sorento was designed and engineered to meet or surpass the expectations of European, North American and global consumers in every respect - including safety."

Hyoung-Keun Lee, senior executive vice president and COO of Kia's International Business Division, predicted earlier this year that 2010 will see sales of the Kia Sorento reach some 140,000 across the world.

Launching the vehicle at the Seoul Motor Show, Mr Lee said the Kia Sorento "will soon be recognised as an exciting all-rounder" in the SUV market.
