'Powerful Scirocco' due out this year

Thu, 21 May 2009
Motorists who are impressed by power when buying a car may be keen to check out the latest offering from Volkswagen.

The manufacturer has revealed its new Scirocco R boasts better acceleration than any of its predecessors.

With 265 PS and torque of 258 lbs ft, the model has achieved a rise of 65 PS and 51 lbs ft over the 2.0-litre TSI edition that is currently on the market.

UK buyers should be able to get their hands on the car before the end of the year, but prices are not due to be announced until closer to the vehicle's release date.

However, those who do end up purchasing the model will find it features a rear spoiler, six-speed manual or DSG gearbox, Adaptive Chassis Control and 18-inch five-spoke wheels.

Meanwhile, people attending the Nurburgring 24 hrs will get a sneak preview of the car this Saturday.

In other news, Volkswagen is one of the manufacturers participating in the government's vehicle scrappage incentive scheme.
