Soul design praised

Thu, 19 Mar 2009
Motorists buying a car this year may want to consider the latest addition to Kia's line-up after it received praise for its design.

The Soul drove away from the red dot awards in Germany with an honourable mention.

Kia expressed delight at securing the "prestigious recognition", describing the event as the number one design competition in the world.

The Soul was up against 3,230 entries from 49 countries spread across 17 categories and its success makes it the first Korean car in history to be honoured in this way.

Kia's managing director Paul Philpott commented: "The Kia Soul defies conventions and offers buyers a new freedom in style, a new shape and new power of expression."

The judging panel was made up of 29 designers and academics from a variety of counties including Israel, Finland, Mexico and Sweden.

In related motoring news, the Soul Burner recently clinched Fast Car magazine's title of Best New Model 2009.
