Seat celebrates steering wheel gold

Fri, 07 Nov 2008
Seat was the recipient of a gold steering wheel in recognition of the performance of its Ibiza supermini in recent days, the company has announced.

The Barcelona-based car manufacturer explains readers of German newspaper Bild am Sonntag voted the motor into a final, before it was judged by a panel of experts - including former rally and race driver Walter Rohrl.

According to the company, the Ibiza's low CO2 emissions, design, comfort, handling and dynamics were scrutinised before it took away the first prize.

In addition, the vehicle was named compact car of the year by Dutch auto club ANWB in recent days.

Steve Robertson, head of marketing at Seat UK, comments about the company's haul of awards from the continent, saying the firm is happy the Ibiza has been recognised as a winner.

"The fact that independent judges in both Germany and Holland have put Ibiza top in such a competitive sector shows the tremendous appeal of the car," he adds.

In recent days, the firm announced its Exeo is due to be available in UK showrooms in the first half of 2009.
