Cash discount on a £8K new purchase at dealers? - MondeoMonkeyMagic

Hi,

What kind of cash discount would you likely get at either the end of Feb or end of March on a small city car for paying cash (£8K to spend)

I know cash isn't king anymore, but would 5% be about right?

That depends entirely on the brand of car, the margin the dealership has on that car and how willing they are to give it away. A savvy dealership would rather negotiate on accesories or a service plan to start with...however I dont think 5% is entirely ureasonable if you stick to it.

But if you are in a Citroen or Peugeot dealership they will probably bend over, say thank you very much and then come round to clean your house at 5%!

Check drivethedeal, if it shows a decent discount show a dealer the price and ask them to beat it. If they won't buy off drivethedeal.

Worked for us a few years ago. So much easier than wasting hours being patronised in a dealership.

When I bought my BMW I looked at Drive the Deal and other sites before visiting local dealer. He worked out a price and proudly showed it to me probably assuming I would accept it. Simply said I could buy it cheaper from the internet and without asking what I was willing to pay dropped the price £2000 to match the best deal I had found, how did he know. Bought it there and then.

In auto express this week they have a feature on the 100 best cars and what to pay.

In your bracket

Skoda Citygo list price £9130, dealing at £8765

Hyundai i10 list price £9345, dealing at £8317

However I found Drive the deal to be about the best and used it to batter my dealer with their quote.
