Mazda 5 - Garage say there is nothing wrong - estobi1

I have a Mazda 5 which is less than 3 years old and therefore still "under warranty". The clutch and 3 shock absorbers have gone, tracking out and handbrake has slipped. The garage investigated the clutch and found that it "was driver error" and therefore I had to pay £900 for the repair. The rest has been done under warranty.

Since carrying out the repair the gearbox is very sticky in first and second gear. Some mornings it feels like I have to force it into gear when the car is cold. My car is with the garage now and they say there is nothing wrong. I am very concerned that on top of all of this I am now going to end up with a duff gearbox which I have no money to fix. I have to take the courtesy car back to the garage this morning and they will let me leave my car there and check it again but I am then car less.

What should I do?

Hi,
Mx5 are known for having a smooth gearbox action ,if your isn't smooth then there may be a fault .
It's possible that changing the gearbox oil may help .Often modern gearboxes are sealed for life so it may not be an option .

I would have your car inspected by an independent gearbox specialist ,if he confirms a fault then go back to the dealer and insist on a repair .

If you say the gear box is baulky how come the garage don't agree? Have they test driven it? Act quickly as you may need to get an admission that there is a problem, before your 3 year warranty runs out.

I would strongly advise that you report the faults on your car, to the "garage" which I take to mean the Mazda dealer, by a registered, signed for letter before the 3 year warranty expires.

As long as a warranty fault is reported before the warranty period expires the dealer and manufacturer should cover it.

That would suggest that the work done on the clutch isn't right, rather than the gearbox being on the way out, too much of a coincidence. Duff release bearing (they did replace the whole lot, rather than just shoving in a friction plate??) or something up with the mechanism (air in system if hydraulic, incorrectly adjusted if cable).
