Peugeot 405 Petrol - engine swap with differet car model engine - vinke

hi,

does anyone know if a toyota engine can fit into a 405? there is a lack of spares where am located so 95% of these cars are grounded

Getting an engine to physically fit into a bay is quite easy (someone has shorned a 454 Big block chevy V8 into an MG midget). Engine mounts and mating up the gearbox to a different engine are much bigger problems.

Anythings possible but it would be a huge undertaking. The Toyota engine would not fit to the Peugeot gearbox and changing the Peugeot gearbox would affect the dtiveshafts etc. etc. You would also need to fit the Toyota engine ECU and loom and somehow persuade it to talk to the rest of the Peugeot.

If Toyota's are plentiful where you are why not simply buy one.

The easiest engine to fit would be the 1.9 XUD diesel there are plenty of those about and they are a very good engine, the drive shafts might be different but there should be plenty of those about too. You will need an early non electronic engine which you should find in another 405 or a Citroen ZX or early Xantia.

You really need a donor car just in case there are any bits you need. You shouldn't have any electronic issues as all you need is a + ignition switched supply for the stop solonoid plus the normal starter/alternator leads.

You will have to run an additional fuel return pipe to the tank if it doesn't have one but I strongly suspect it does.

You tag into to the reversing light switch + side for the fuel shut off solenoid feed, and you,ll need the filler neck from a diesel as the petrol is smaller and you won't be able to put diesel in it, did loads of these in the early nineties, simple conversion, you can also fit the 1.9 td engine , just as easy .
