Citroen C4 Picasso - Will zafira winter tyres fit on my new C4 Picasso? - skiptonmaria
Having had winter tyres on my Vauxhall Zafira for three seasons now I'm eager to make sure I got some for the new Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 hdi platinum I'm going to lease, so question is, will my current winter tyres fit the new car or will I have to get some new ones?

The Zafira's current winter tyres are ContinentalWinter 205/55 R16.

Hi

If it helps, our 1.6HDi Grand Picasso VTR+ EGS has 215 55 R16 as standard, on alloys. They should be "XL" extra load.

The clue to the answer lies in fact they are different sizes.

Winter tyres are often narrower than standard tryes. I note that some insurance companies are cashing in on winter tyres and charging you if you fit them. Regards Peter

Don't know where you saw that. Most insurance companies charge no extra providing they are a manufacturers OE size. We hav 225/45 17 on in the summer and 205 55 16 in the winter. No charge because the manufacturer fits both on different trim specs.

Hmmm, seem to be no straight answer then! I am aware that the tyre specs for the Picasso is different, ie it says 215/50 17 on Picasso, but I also knew that winter tyres can be narrower...might give my local ats euromaster a call and see what they say!

Main thing I wasn't sure about was that my current winter tyres are 16 whilst Picasso's are 17s?

Most but not all. Several motoring forums have been uncovering this. Bit off it you live in Scotland and you use winter tyres for safety.

Even the press have joined in.

Most but not all. Several motoring forums have been uncovering this.

The article you have quoted is a specific question to Honest John in January this year. In the reply Honest John says that Direct Line admitted they were wrong. In the table in the link very few companies require you to inform them and none will refuse cover or charge more.

But the tyres need to be the correct size, load rating and speed rating recommended by the car manufacturer. Fit non-standard sizes and they will possibly be a charge.
