Hyundai i20 Diesel 1.1 Delivery Time 1YEAR - JustWantToBuyACar

In mid July 2012 I paid a deposit and ordered a new Hyundai i20 1.1 Diesel Blue Drive. Estimated delivery was September 2012. This was revised to 29 Sept. This was then extended to October, and again to November!

Yesterday I was advised by the dealer that my car would be deliverered to them in July 2013

I spoke to Hyundai UK who confirmed that there was a delay due to 'Global Demand'

Personally,I think 'Crap Supply' is the cause. Anyone shed any lght on what the real problem is?

Anyone know of ANY 1.1 Blue Diesels ever reaching the UK?

I find it amazing how there are 5-Star motor journal reviews for a car that doesn't seem to exist.

Whilst I can totaly understand your frustration, what is

'Crap Supply'

supposed to mean?

Why don't you belive what Hyundai UK have told you?

Surely a good negotiating point to get a good deal on a different spec with a shorter lead time?

Any vehicles they make will firstly go to markets were they make most profit hence the long long wait.

There are plenty of ther cars suitbale for driving instructors as I can't think of anyone esle who would need a 1.1 diesel.

Is UK a low profit area for sales of cars? List prices suggest to me that it is not! Equally I realise that list price is not necessarily what is paid!

Delivery times from brokers aren't necessarily representative of delivery times for cars ordered through dealers - brokers get their cars by various means, some by dubious means.

Hyundai has had several delays in deliveries in the last couple of years, caused by excess sales above worldwide forecast

Wouldn't that be the UK ?

Because of the tax system and costs to sell a car I think the UK is well down the list of preferable countries to sell plenty of African countries were they can retail the car at a higher price and pay no tax and also in their own neighbourhood maybe a few brown envelopes here and there have to be given but thats what makes the world go round.

Hyundai i20 Diesel 1.1 Delivery Time 1YEAR - Avant

Have a look at a Kia Rio diesel: it probably shares a lot of components with the Hyundai. See what delivery is like on those. A Skoda Fabia would be an equally cheap and roomy alternative.

Have a look on Autotrader, plug in New/Nearly New into the search parameters.

There are 7 cars of the exact type you want, ranging from delivery miles only to 1500.

Priced from £9995 to £12795, most are 62 plate cars.

OK so you may not be the first owner on the V5, but well worth a look IMO.

You should be able to get your deposit back based on unreasonable delay.

Agree with Avant, the Kia Rio is also worth a look.

Hope this helps.

Kia Rio is a fine car and very similar to the i20. Just don't buy a small petrol engined one with an autobox.

Have you asked whether it is just the Blue version that is affected or is it all 1.1CRD's? The 1.1 Classic is the same list price as the Blue - does without the stop/start, same VED, and comes with air con.

Cannot imagine that Hyundai will sell many Blue versions, and this may be the issue.
