Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - nick62

Finally got around to ordering a new RR Evoque earlier this week.

Signed the order at the dealers after deciding on a few optional extras and left a £500 deposit.

The following day when looking at the order more closely, I realise that the OTR price is £30 more than on the LR website and their current published price list. Now this is not a deal breaker as it is less than 0.1% of the cost of the car!

I have not been able to speak with the salesman, but during email discussions they are saying that there is a "delivery" charge which is where the extra £30 has been charged!!!

I will be going to see this person during the next couple of days, but I get the impression (from emails already exchanged) that they are not going to waive this fee. As a matter of principle, this has really got up my nose.

Do I have the right to cancel my order and demand my £500 deposit be refunded?

BTW, another LR franchise knew which dealer I was asking about as soon as I mentioned this mysterious fee)!

The time to get the fee waived was just after reading but before signing the order form. Why on earth should the dealer cancel the order and refund your deposit? They haven't hidden anything - it's all there in black and white. And you agreed to it.

I can't believe anyone spending that much money would quible over £30.

You did sign it and if it was listed then you cant really complain.

DO you have a "cooling off " period whereby you can cancel and get your money back?

£30? Not a big deal compared with the overall cost. If it was on the bill not a leg to stand on.

If you signed it, looks like you'll be lucky to get it back as cash.

What you could do however is take a VERY long time inspecting the car, getting more test drives for your other half, make lots of phone calls to your salesperson, ie waste their time to more than the value of £30.

Absolutely ! Anyone who buys any expensive new car (including me) wouldn't have done it if £30 seemed a significant unseeen charge especially when you consider the depreciation as soon as you drive it out of the showroom ! What I object to is the way they try and sell you all sorts of extras like GAP insurance and paint seal for £300 which cost them £5 plus a bit of elbow grease.

Hi, firstly am I corect in thinking that you will be the first registered keeper?

Secondly, as far as I am aware a retailer can charge what the heck he likes for goods (in fact I think it is illegal for the manufacturer to stipulate what the retailer MUST charge).

Saying that, it is very unusual for a retailer to charge more than the manufacturer stated OTR price.

The Land Rover web-site OTR pirces include "delivery to dealer" so I would certainly be asking exactly what this additional delivery charge is.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - a900ss

A supplier can legally enforce a maximum retail price (provided it is in the supplier/retailer agreement), the minimum price is entirely at the retailers discretion.

That wont be the last amount the LR dealer is trying to wring out of you.

Wait till the service and when things start going wrong !

I have a Freelander two which is what the new Evoque is based upon and reliability and support has been the worst experince in 35 years of motoring ! appaling support from dealerships ! and LR customer service forget it !

I appreciate it's the prinicpal but you really need to chill a bit if you're going to cancel the order for the sake of £30. You could try complaining to Land Rover head office I suppose.

I was taught to read the contract first before signing. And fired a Purchasing Manager who did not..

Basic simple consumerism..

The £30 is a cheap lesson.. Accept it and try to be more switched on in future. It could have been £3,000.

Thanks madf, but NO it couldn't have been £3,000, as that would have been a bit to easy to spot!

Yes, I know I'm being petty, but I feel it is a bit like how the budget airlines operate (well at least ONE of them), in that basicaly they are "hiding" a charge (however small), that should not be levied.

I did know the OTR price of the basic car, but SHMBO wanted some options and I did not know beforehand what the final cost should have been with these, as they were chosen at the time of order. I did actually query the "delivey" charge and was assured it was part of the standard OTR price, so I have actually been misled by the salesman.

ON THE ROAD PRICE (OTR): This is the Manufacturer's Retail Price plus their delivery charge, first year's road tax and first registration fee,
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - nick62

Doc,

The DELIVERY charge is included in the basic cost of the car, (I know this now, but was not aware at the time of order, as all prices are shown less VAT). The dealers paperwork shows it as an additional cost, so the salesman LIED to me, as the basic price on my order is correct, (but shown less VAT).

I understand how you feel about 'hidden' charges, but there is a truism which states: "when principles come into the room, reality goes out of the window. "

I think it applies here. You don't want to even think about the charges hidden within the £30K price tag.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - Avant

If any of us charged our time out, we'd already be well over £30 out of pocket just by reading this thread!

As others have said, you'd have a case only if they tried to add on the £30 AFTER you'd signed the contract.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - nick62

Whilst I can see the logic with the attitude "its only £30 in a £30,000 deal....get over it", I assume you all like being ripped-off?

Good old British attitude strikes again...........moan a lot, but do nothing about it.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - Avant

No - read the contract before you sign it: then you can challenge it before getting ripped off..

I did read it and queried the "delivery" charge and was told it was included in the OTR price (which it is), but this was an EXTRA "delivery" charge, so I was actually misled, (i.e. he lied)! It was not obvious as the prices on the order are shown less VAT. It is an underhand way to get extra cash. Why does a dealer feel the need to do this when they are already making upwards of a £2,000 margin?

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - Collos25

Charge apart ,Isn't the Evoque won of the most pointless and ugly cars made goes along with the rest of range .

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - PatrickO

Way to troll the thread Collos25. The OP wasn't asking for advice regarding his decision to purchase.

If you want my advice, just forget about it. The effort you'll put into retrieving that £30 just isn't worth your time.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - Bobbin Threadbare

This thread was too long to catch up on.......but the OP has spent upwards of around £30k on a RR, of which £30 is 0.1%.....this ought to put it into perspective. Unless of course the point is the principle of extra charges, in which case a complaint about the obfuscation in the contracts etc should suffice......

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - alan O

I'm sorry but if you're forking out thick end of £40k on a car, you're obviously a high earner, and in the time you've spent working out that you've been done £30 you could probably have earned 5 times that amount.

I agree it's cheeky - but if the salesman is that desperate for £30, grit your teeth and accept it!

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - Doc

When you get delivery, ask for £30 worth of fuel.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - RickyBoy

My maxin for life has always been:

Win some/Lose some.

You've seemingly lost this one but I'm almost certain you'll win that £30.00 back from someone/somewhere else in the future!

Then again, if you've bought a Fuji White one I'd be wanting a full refund :–) ...

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - thunderbird

Bet you spend more than £30 in taxi fares while its being repaired while you own it.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - bonzo dog

To all those who feel that the OP should simply take the loss of £30 on the chin ........ please send me a cheque for £30; it clearly means nowt to you!

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - RickyBoy

...no longer motoring-related, but as a humorous aside to this for me (bad karma?):

Briefly – last week AA offerd me a summer boiler service for £59 instead of £89. I went for it with the appointment due this Friday. Checking (I do it every 48-hrs) my credit card balance online this morning they've charged me the full £89.00!

Have just 'let it rip' down the telephone, cancelled the appointment. requested a full refund and will now use a local guy I used before at £70.

So yes, you REALLY MUST hunt down all of those £30's that you're owed at every opportunity – heh!

As you were...

If you are going to do a thorough inspection on delivery then I would look verrrry close at the paintwork, haven't there been some mentions of runs and thin patches on this model???

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Dealer is having a laugh - Ed V

This idicates why so many businesses make their profits by following the sage advice to "follow the money."

It's how lawyers and bankers work - % of the deal, rather than validating their own costs; or estate agents who still charge % of house price despite a tripling of prices in 15 years.

Is the delivery charge for a Roller £300?

£30? You'll lose more than that the moment you drive it out of the showroom :-)
