Unknown! - Tracing the make of a car from it's side light? - Mumstheword

I've got the orange plastic 'casing' of what I think is an indicator light. It's made by axo scintex. Does anyone know if they supply these casings to multiple manufacturers, or if the make of the casing can narrow it down? It's got a number on there too - 01 91081 - which could be a part number.

I've tried googling using different words but am struggling to come up with anything.

Some get has swiped my car today. I did hear something and looked outside, but a white car drove off before I could see his reg plate. I've just been out and there's damage to my paintwork - and white paint in the damage (my car's dark blue). And this indicator light casing is smashed on the road right next to the damage.

It's a long shot I know, but worth a try to narrow it down and see if I can find a white car of that make with damage, on this estate! I'm sure whoever did it will clean off my blue paint from his car to cover up, but wont be able to replace a smashed indicator light straight away!

From distant past memory most parts have some form of identification marking on them, I believe that this is something to do with EU conformity, the only way that I can think of to identify the numbers, other than google of course, is VOSA or the accident investigation unit of your local police. As its a minor damage only accident then I doubt whether the police will be interested that much but if you want to claim against the other party if you find him/her then you will need to report it. If you think it was someone near where you live then walk/drive around in the early hours to see if you can spot it.

Axo are a French supplier of marker lighting to the low end of the market. The most likely application would be Citroen.

Depending on the size of the piece you have, a walk around a car park in a low income area might find a similar one. Unlike the Germans, the French do not usually put part numbers on their components so your number may not help. Best of luck.

Thanks for your replies coopsphere, madf and 659FBE.

The numbers dont throw anything up, madf, on that website. Maybe as 659FBE said, it's a French one without a part number.

Coopsphere, I dont think it's one I'll report unless I think I can be fairly sure of the culprit. Taking it thru my insurance wouldn't be worth it once I've taken into account the excess and any possible future problems caused by making a claim.

My local spares shop has taken my number and said they'll contact me if anyone asks for this type of part, which is very good of them.

We'll have a look around the estate later on once most cars are back for the evening. It's unlikely I'll be so lucky as to find the culprit on my own estate (it's used as a cut through too) but if they are, I will find them lol!!

Thanks again :)
