Hyundai i20 - Smell of petrol coming through air vents - Dougie68

When stationary there is a smell of petrol coming through the air vents. The car was recently serviced by main dealer and they couldn't find anything.

Typical. The fault wouldn't occur when it was in garage but a day after I got it back it's started again! When you lift the bonnet the smell is quite strong.

I was going to ask them to have another look but don't want to look daft if the car doesn't do it again - they might think I'm wasting their time.

Would anyone have an idea what might cause it?

Thanks in advance.

If you can smell petrol under the bonnet there is a leak. If in the air vents, it is serious.

You would look very daft if it caught fire: petrol vapour explodes.

Take it back and demand they fix teh leak.. they obviously caused.

Thanks for the reply MADF.

It was doing it before it went into the dealer for a service and it's intermitent. That's probably why they couldn't find anything. I'll get them to look harder this time!

Thanks again.
