I purchased a Seat Ibiza Eocmotive with 33,000 miles on the clock back in march and I've allready added another 8,000 to it.

Due to work I will be driving around 33,000 per annum, mostly motorway, and I was just wondering, if such a question can be answered, how long should a diesel engine last?

I have allready carried out 1 service on it (an error on the dealerships part who didnt reset the service computer so I took it in for a very unecessary service! Foolish of me too for simply obeying the oboard computer and not reading my service manual.) and I intend to carry out future services at every 10k (so 3 per annum), in the hope that the car will last as long as possible.

On a side note if anybody else has a similar model what tyre pressure do you have? The dealership garage, my local garage and my local tyre retailer have all set it up differently, currently operating at 32 psi as reccomended by the tyre retailer.

Serviced every 10k, assuming you use a good quality oil (i would be using a high quality fully synthetic) and filters, not forgetting an annual fuel filter renewal, i see no reason why 250k+ shouldn't be easily attainable.

Constant motorway driving is the least wearing use there is.

Don't forget to take good care of gearbox oils, brake fluids, drive belts etc too.

I don't have a Seat, but most cars have a makers sticker somewhere stating tyre specs, door pillar or inside fuel flap, the pressure stated is the guide i use.

Forgot to say, assuming your servicing garage will play ball, you could save yourself a lot of money by buying oil in bulk, and supplying your own.

I bought 50 litres of Millers top grade fully synthetic, worked out half the normal discounted price, i bought through my local and helpful Carmaster shop, though i believe some Vauxhall dealerships offer good prices for multi packs (4x5 litre cans) too, certainly worth shopping around, you'll end up with the very best for the price of semi.

If you intend to do your own in between oil changes once warranty is out, a Fumoto oil drain valve will make the job easy and clean.

Not all will agree, but don't forget to let your turbo cool down for a minute before shut down if you stop at a service area etc.

Don't forget to maintain the coolant too.

GB makes some very valid points. For a car this small and for this amount of driving you may wish to invest in some quiet running tyres to maintain sanity. Also, Assuming you are driving th ecar alone, you will find that the drivers seat and pedals get worn. Maybe invest in a car seat cover (assuming there are no airbags in the seats) and pedal rubbers to keep the drivers area of the car looking as good as the remainder.

There is no better way to drive a car than to run it permanently on the motorway. Limited wear on the clutch, gearbox, suspension, brakes, means fewer repairs.
