small crack on tyre - normal? - DennisPennis

There is a small crack in the rubber on the outer, is this normal?

It's not deep at all.

Also, some small hairline cracks on rubber tread blocks but the tyre company say these are normal, I presume any fitting company does a safety check anyway?

The crack looks more like a cut - if you point it out, the tyre fitting company will advise if it needs a plug as it would with a nail going through it, unlikely I think.

The hairline cracks to me look like normal perishing marks but I'd keep an eye on them each time you check the tyre pressure and see if they get worse or if the tread blocks begin to separate and lift.

If you have a cut in the sidewall I would have it looked at - it can be very dangerous if you do any motorway or hi speed driving to get a blowout.

Go to a garage you trust.

It's NOT in the sidewall but having said that, what difference does it make?

The first picture shows a common cut. If it's not leaking, then you've got away with it.

The second picture shows a very poor quality tread moulding with a flaw across one tread block. (In Sherlock Holmes mode) I would say that this is a picture of a re-mould or of a cheap import from that country which is known for poor-quality tyres (but I won't commit to stating which country). If you tell me that this tyre has a respected manufacturer's name, then I will stay off the Aldi red wine for a whole month! (Hungarian, just over three quid a bottle!)

I wouldnt be concerned with either.

I use to have around two or three flats a year with scrap metal, and would often remove scrap to leave such cuts.

But i dont travel the motorway every day, in which case i would consider having the tyre checked.

Tyre fitters said it was fine.

On that note, do these cuts get bigger or just stay as they are?

They stay as they are, your tyre looks great, stop worrying.

You actually opened a thread for such a small cut? Actually, do you check your tires for cuts without them leaking?
