Manufacturers can only insust that servicing is carried out to specified standards, not that it is carried out by a franchised dealer.
The problem is that 'lifetime warranties' don't refer to your lifetime, they refer to the expected lifetime of the component in question under reasonable use.
This is particularly problematic when you're dealing with suspension/clutch components where the lifetime is heavily dependant on use. In this case you are often at the mercy of "goodwill contributions" which tend not to be forthcoming to customers who have not demonstrated suitable "loyalty" by having their vehicles serviced by franchised dealers...
