I have a peugeot 1.9 td this will not start by key does not fire just turns over but if you bump start its fine has anyone any ideas on why this happens.

Probably failure of the glow plugs. Connect a meter between the glow plug feed and earth, switch the ignition to the glow plug position with the meter set to read 12 volts and see what happens. You should have a reading of 10-11 volts for about 15 seconds, no voltage fault in the supply circuit, 12 volts or there about you have one or more glow plugs that have failed.

A poor connection across the glow plug relay contacts isn't uncommon on these either. Does the glow plug lamp illuminate when you switch on the ignition?.....

Curious?just how fast does the engine turn over on crank?anything less than 180rpm and I'd be checking the starting system.
