Mazda 6 2L Diesel Sport 2007 - TO REPLACE FRONT WHEEL BEARING - bigron

I plan to replace a noisy F/W bearing on my Mazda.

Before starting I would like to identify possible problems.

Do I need splined sockets or other special tools?

Does the bearing come as an assembly or just the bearings.

Not sure what tools you need, but the independent garage who did the front bearing on my 55-plate Mazda 6 said it was a pig of a job to do.

I've changed the rear wheel bearings on my previous Focus myself so when I told him I'd been looking into doing the front bearing on the 6 myself, the guy said there's no way I'd have managed it at home. I think he said something had seized and he'd had to apply heat - I'm afraid I can't remember exactly what the problem was.

IIRC, the bill included a couple of hour's labour.

BTW, a Mazda 6 wheel bearing (both OEM and pattern) was £70-odd - twice the price of the Focus.
