Toyota Yaris - lost throttle response - bargepole

Car:- Yaris SR 1.3 manual 2008

My partner was driving her Yaris (only had it a week) today and the throttle stopped responding, the engine just stayed at idle. After pulling over and re-starting the car she drove home ok without further problem. She said she didn't notice any warning lights but she was in a bit of a panic at the time.

When I was putting the car in the garage I noticed the engine malfunction lamp come on, I stopped the car and re-started and the lamp went out, drove it round the block all ok.

Anyone aware of this sort of throttle problem on a Yaris. Obviously if this was to happen on a motorway it could cause a nasty accident. A quick google has revealed someone in Canada with the same problem.

Phoned a few Toyota dealers who are not aware of any problems although the handbook does say under the Malfunction Indicator Lamp section:-

"If engine speed does not increase when the accelerator is depressed, there may be a problem somewhere in the throttle electronic control system."

The good thing is the MIL light came on so take it to a garage and get the codes read this will identify the fault.

Suspect a sensor ,potentiometer etc.

Dealer who sold the car reluctant to pay for Toyota to look at it, he says I can either take it to garage he uses for repairs or I can use my own mobile mechanic. Both options have the kit for checking fault codes.

Used the car today for a short journey without any problems, interesting video on electronic throttles http://www.toyota.co...control-system/
