Jaguar XJ6 and XJR - Ever done a straight swap at a dealer? - 56chevy

Would like rid of my unreliable Jag but I don't have any more cash to spend (spent it all on repairs) anyone ever done a swap at a dealers? I know it ought to be possible, but I can't see it working unless I take really low offer on my car....

Which jag is it you want rid of, year, type, engine, and why? if it is more than 6-7 years old you'll only get peanuts on it unless you put it on fleabay and then you might only get the packet the peanuts should have come in!

More seriously, any dealer will want to make at least £ minimum per transaction, so work it out from there! I've tried it a few times!

Good luck, tell us what happens.

Is an 05 XJ TDVI but with high miles (136k) - any idea what the £ per trans is? - I usually expect them to be trying for £1K but I always seem to wind up paying loads - I can never get close to published prices for my trade-in and seem to end up paying top dollar for the car I'm buying.

06 models with between 155 and 180k miles seem to be around the 8K mark on auto trader ! theres even an 05 with 146000 miles for 12495.00

Big difference so make sure yours is spotless.

good luck

have a bit of patience, get it valeted and stick it on autotrader or e-bay and give it a go.

I meant to say at least £1000 MINIMUM, (usually if the "punter is daft enough they'll go for more!) but it wouldn't let me edit...

a while back when i bought my last mgzt that was the figure difference, the they put my old car up with a £2000 markup. After 6 months I sold the ZT to a trader as a straight sale, (with incurable HGF) boot filling with water, exhaust fell off and was mightily releived to get something for it! (lost £1700 in 6 months, but no more rovers for this oldroverboy!)

In terms of resale you have the most resellable model, the petrol V6 is more reliable and is much cheaper to buy - so you never know.

XJRs drink fuel no matter how they are driven. If you're worried about costs but want some performance you would be better off with a 4.2 V8. Still a very quick car but will return over 30mpg at 70mph.
