Ford Focus - Ford: refusing valid perforation warranty claims - j99

I've noticed that Ford nowadays will do its utmost to avoid accepting claims against the bodywork perforation warranty. (This is in contrast to the situation a few years ago where they tended to accept valid claims without quibbling). Even if the claim is clearly valid, they will flatly refuse to accept it, to the extent that people have to take them to the small claims court in order to receive compensation.

I suspect the current policy is because they were receiving too many claims - on some models e.g. Focus, the warranty has a duration of 12 years, which with hindsight was too generous as some Focuses tend to rust at the bottom of the doors and on the inside of the tailgate after eight years of so.

Not just ford! my 7 year old golf has zinc perforations and vw will not accept it is down to poor shoddy workmanship. Get an independant report and see a solicitor. Good luck

I can top this, my 3 3/4 year old A4 had to have the roof re-painted due to

bubbling corrosion, and initially they said that the paint defects warranty was only 3 yrs as opposed to the perfpration warranty which was 6 or 7 years, but thankfully they did the sensible thing and just sorted it. I think this is an instance where not wavering from main dealer sericing helped.

My local Ford Accident Repair Centre in Stafford repaired a door 2 years into the Perforation Warranty period. Unfortunately, it started to rust 6 years later, 1 year outside the 5 Year Repair Centre Warranty.

As I was outside the Ford Repair Centre Warranty I tried to claim under the Ford Perforation Warranty. This was first rejected by the Ford Customer Relations centre in Daventry after a VIN check, on the grounds that my Aug 2002 Mondeo was only covered for 6 years.

Eventually, I managed to convince them this was not correct so they moved on to the “Annual body and paint checks” requirement. Apparently every owner has to take their Ford vehicle into a Ford Accident Repair Centre every year so that the condition of the bodywork can be recorded and the Perforation Warranty maintained and having your vehicle regularly serviced by a Ford Dealer is not sufficient to maintain the Perforation Warranty.

I contacted my insurer Tesco Insurance to report the substandard repair and asked them to reopen the claim as the original job had not been done correctly.

At first they tried to reject my claim on the grounds that it was outside their 5 year warranty.

When I asked them to show me where the 5 year warranty requirement was stated in the policy they could not do so. Despite this they are still refusing to pay out, leaving me to take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman for resolution.

I will be checking bodywork repairs for rust before the repair warranty runs out, in future.

On Monday past i took my peugeot 308 bck to the main dealership where i got it with the paint bubbling badly under the bonnet just at the nose of the car and on the lip of the boot . I was given the same tosh about the paint being a 3 year warranty and only box sections where covered under the seven year warranty. Im awaiting a phone call from them to see if they will do any thing about it as its 5 months out of its 3 year warranty.

If peugoet want to improve they're rep they better get they're quality department on board as well, that was the only reason i bought one!! as i thought they had dramatically improved things, changing winds my bum.

I had the rear wheel arches of my old Vectra B repaired under Vauxhall's warranty when it was 9+ years old (and under 10 year warranty). That was 3 or 4 years ago.

In that case it had a main dealer service each year - that qualified for the body inspection, and there was no quibble. Full marks to Vauxhall & dealer I think - and that experience would encourage me to buy another new Vauxhall.

The rust reappeared 18 months later though......

With mainstream manufacturers, named earlier in this thread, renaging on warranties or taking the stance "sorry but it's 1 day out of the warranty" is there any wonder more people are choosing Toyota?
