I have seen a 2002 1.4 tdci ford fusion at a local indie dealer. He had literally just received it in and had not valeted it etc...

He gave me the keys to fire it up and, well, I was almost knocked out by the fumes inside the car. Now, having been considering diesel fiesta and fusions I was aware of what the problem might be immediately: Injector Seals.

The garage are having them done this week.

My question is, that if I go and test drive it when it is back and there are no fumes, the turbo kicks in and it all feels, sounds, smells and looks ok - could this be ok? I mean, is there anything else I should look out for?

Additional info:

79k miles, fsh, may 2012 mot (no advisories), franchise dealer trade in (then sold to indie). The car looked pretty clean, was a bit wary that the bonnet was difficult to open (I could not work the catch). But otherwise it looked like a well used car.
