1.4 Golf FSI - 05 plate 1.4 Golf FSI - CAM belt??? - JC22

Hi just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on an advised CAM belt change for my 05 1.4 Golf FSI - i had my car serviced at the main dealer & the service advisor (not the mechanic/technician) said as it was the 6 year service a CAM belt change was due...... Due to the cost i said i'd wait & shop around.

I then went to an independent VW dealer, who rang VW with my reg etc. & they came back saying the CAM belt didn't need changing due to the fact it was on a timing belt(???). Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this - any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cam belt and timing belt are the same thing! Are you sure they didn't say timing CHAIN rather than belt? They generally don't ned replacing unless they stretch too much.

If it's a belt, cough up and get it changed. You don't want it to snap...
