"Checking Out" a used Car Dealer before buying - Surrey_Scientist

Does anyone have any hints or tips on how to check out a used car dealer before going and buying...

Have seen a car advertised but don't live in the area and have no "local knowledge" as to their reputation.

Tried Googling them and haven't seen anything good or bad....

tried posting on here about them and nobody has replied. (no news is good news ?)

Are their any forums or review sites people can recommend ?

What about the local trading standards - are they able to give any info ?

I would check the car itself. Does the service history stack up - ring the dealers to make sure it was done. Check the Vosa site to see if the milage is correct - all MOTs will be there plus mileage etc

Ring the former owner to ask about its condition/mileage condition reliability etc.

You need to ask the selling dealer for the info on the V5 document. If they won't give it to you, this tells you something

If it stacks up, go and see the car, and take a mechanic/competent person to check it out.
