There is a small leak in the power steering rack of my 53 plate Picasso. I'm being quoted £350 for a new one, inc. of labour and VAT.

It's a cost I could well do without! Are there any alternatives to do it more cheaply? In particular I was wondering about:

1. The various 'stop leak' fluids that are on the market - do they actually work?

2. I've heard that tubing and jubilee clips might work - any advice on that?

3. What about getting a reconditioned unit? I've seen these for round about £100 on ebay, but don't want it to pack up again in a few months!
