Changing the clutch on a zafira requires the removal of the front subframe, so yes they would have removed the front wheels and probably a fair chunk of the suspension in order to pull the driveshafts too.

They were certainly the last ones to do the wheel bolts up, so it's their fault and the fact that this problem occurred within days of their work is the "smoking gun" here.
