Nissan Almera 1.8 SE 2000 - Judder/Misfire - Help - L44ADW

Hi,

New to this forum but not internet forums so firstly Hi :-)

Right.....

....I have recently purchased a Nissan Almera 1.8 SE (MY 2000).

The car seems to have a very intermittent Judder\Misfire that only seems to occur in 4th or 5th gear (but not all the time)

The car seems to drive faultlessly in gears 1-3 & starts & idles very smoothly with no unusual rattles or noises.

I have done a bit of googling (after I purchased the car) and am well aware that there are issues with stretched timing chains on these cars which I know can be pricey to replace.

Does anyone know what the common symptoms are for this timing chain stretch problem and if this could be my problem, based on the fact that the judder\misfire only happens occasionally in certain gears, & the car drives faultlessly other wise?

The car only has 58 on the clock with FSH

My car is due a service now which it is booked in for in a week so will have new plugs, filters, oil etc put in so that may help.

Any opinions welcome

Thanks

Adam

Wow, you found a 1.8 manual. I fancied one, but couldn't find any.

It may well be worth asking whoever services the car to remove the cam cover and measure the protuberance of the timing chain tensioner. It shouldn't cost much and will be much cheaper than throwing money at trying to cure the problem blind. At least you'll then know definitely whether or not it is the chain.

Good Shout

Can anyone advise how this needs to be measured & what the chain tolerances\measures should be?

A Google found this: www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=180657

where this guy says: if it pertrueds more than 13 mm its knackered

I thought it was 10mm, but that could just be my memory failing.

Any more opinions on the cause of my intermitant misfire\Judder issue?
