Having read the threads about this service and noting the negative feedback as well i thought i would give the Legal Cover a bash.

On entering the web site i noticed breakdown cover was available as well at a good price.

However to purchase the said items you have to join as a member.

No problem with that and supposedly an e mail is sent to you to be activated so that i can proceed.

Well needless to say hours later no reply has been received and sent a couple of requests for the activation e mail to be resent but no joy.

So it seems a pity that a customer is unable to purchase these services and together with the other adverse comments posted on here it does not exactly fill me with enthusiasm about what any future services may be like thats if i am ever allowed to take them up.

When looking at the site there is another sub menu on how to become a reseller, its akin to a pyramid system I think I would stay away from anything they may offer.

Absolute rubbish Andy.

The resellers are our dealers who we provide with 7 Day Drive Away insurance though Aviva, and we also offer some of the best value checkout deals available.

We sell GAP at around the £180 mark when that is less than the commission that most garages will expect to get.

I thought you were supposed to be knowledgable and "in the trade"?

Hi Miata,

You appear to be a new poster here and you don't show on any logs that we have at 24cover.

It's very simple to sign up on the site and people with do so without trouble roughly every 1-2 minutes.

Registration is free and it's obviously not complicated but if you get stuck we have backups to deal with it:

Our telephone number (01600 711 792) is published extensively on the site so perhaps you should call us for assistance.

Or alternatively send a support request - again details published on every page.

Or Email me if all this is beyond you. lucy.bonhamcarter@qualitylaw.co.uk

Yes i appreciate it should be a straightforward simple process and not complicated but despite doing exactly as it says on the tin nothing takes place.

I just receive a message at top of the screen saying "log in denied your account blocked or not activated yet did you not get an activation e mail and follow validation instructions"

Which is just the point it wont send me anything to validate. If i try to start afresh it wont let me as it says my e mail is already being used!!!!!!

I am not a complete numpty with computers so god knows whats wrong.

I will try a phone call tomorrow but it seems a hassle. As you say its hardly rocket science to enter your name e mail user name and password.

But the system doesnt appear to wish to send me this magic validation e mail to activate.

Surely it would be better to allow customers to buy products and then go through this membership bit.

PS I have also requested using my registered e mail address to be resent the activation e mail on three occasions but nothing. Not that it ever arrived in first place so i feel the fault is at your end. Thanks.

Miata

I am looking at the problem now - after doing my 2.48am check call to the assistance centres to see they are answering the calls ;-)

This may well relate to the delivery of emails caused by spam traps.

We obviously want to fix it but can you email me your user name privately to I can check our logs and work out what is going on. Please use lucy.bonhamcarter@autolaw.co.uk

Avant, I am guessing but were you also a registered user on AutoLaw? Can you email me so I can resolve the issue. I think I know what it may be. Again it needs to be resolved.

The new site has been rebuilt from the bottom up and perhaps I went "live" with it too early and we should have done more Beta testing on logging in. That said we can only discover and resolve problems when they are reported to us by "real" users so thanks to both.

I have every sympatrhy for you, Miata. I thought I'd register myself and see if all was in order - I think you got further than I did! I put in name, Email address and made up a password - to be greeted with 'Invalid Token'. There was no way of going any further.

For heaven's sake, what's that supposed to mean? Sadly, far too many software designers seem to live in another world from you and me - and poor Lucy, a professional lawyer for whom I have great respect, is in this case the one who gets the flak instead of the sub-human species that designs the software. Imagine - someone has actually programmed the words 'invalid token' into a system. Did they ever stop to think about what a customer might make of that? Or how the result would very probably be loss of said customer?

I'd like to ban the word 'activate' from the language. It represents all that I loathe about software - something is supposed to work; it doesn't; and the implication is that we, the customers, are doing something wrong.

Anyway, Miata, do persevere and get in touch with Lucy - you'll find her very helpful.

I am very aware that we are currently still completing areas. I am very pleased with the Aviva "quote engine" - which does not require any log in and even more pleased with the quotes it is returning - less than £200 a year for comprehensive cover for a couple insuring an Audi A4 Cabrio the other day.

On some of the other products we have the idea right but there are some complexities. GAP insurance is actually a very good idea particularly if you are leasing a car or buying on HP.

Basically if you take your new car out of the showroom and it gets totalled on the way home in an accident which was not your fault the insurer will reimburse the "street" value - which is likely to be considerably less than you paid. So the finance house is likely to come after you for the difference usually within 14 days. I have had one case via Honest John where the amount was £8000.

GAP insurance covers the difference. The problem is it is usually sold via dealers F&I people who are on massive commissions. So whereas I can sell GAP cover at £180 for three years cover and make a profit most dealers sell at plus £400. Guess where the extra goes.

The other product I potentially like is SMART insurance which basically deals with the costs of repairing minor dings and dents without claiming on your main policy and losing your no claims.

Again this is particularly appropriate for people who lease because the car will be subject to a "Fair Wear and Tear" (FWAT) assessment when returned. I have seen claims of up to £2000 from lease companies to repair damage under FWAT.

Again SMART is usually sold via dealers and often at very high mark-ups.
