GOLF TDI - WINTER OR ALL SEASON TYRES - Swifty35

I'm thinking of buying a set of tyres for winter and am divided between Vredestein Quatrac 3s and Snowtrak 3. Given that my main tyres all newish would dedicated winter Snowtracs be a wiser choice?

Both good tyres, do you need or expect serious snow capabilty or the ability to cope safely with normal winter ice and snow, bearing in mind half the time you will be stuck behind others who don't have winter spec.

As they will both be good enough for most eventualities i'd work out the economics and usage...will you own the car long enough to get the wear from the snowtracs say 5 years? if so then they make sense....keep them and any tyres in cool darkness when not in use.

If you are only going to keep the car another couple of years maybe Quatracs would be a better bet, more likely get the use out of them.

Warn you though once you've felt the comfort and wet sure footedness of such tyres you won't want to take them off in the spring, SWMBO would try all sorts to prolong the day of changeover.

Thanks, Good point. I intend keeping the vehicle but one can never tell how long that will be. If circumstances changed, what would the desirability of each set of tyres be on the second hand market? Would this affect the equation?
