I will soon need some new front tyres on my A4 and dont want to spend too much (ie Continental/Michelin etc). Are Vredstein tryres generally any good, as they seem reasonable, and are not some unknown Chinese brand you see so much of these days, ie Linlong, Goodride, Freeway etc ?

They have a got a good reputation not always easy to buy in this country .I would't worry a good tyre.

I heard good things about them but when I asked they weren't any cheaper than the Continentals that my Octavia has already.

Superb tyres, one of the few makers who offer genuine snowflake marked all season.

Worth checking our Camskills and Tyremen for them...Mytres worth checking too but usually more expensive.

They are always on my list when I am choosing tyres.

Another vote for Camskill too - excellent service.

They have a good reputation for good tyres at a reasonable price.Think they are owned by Dunlop?. I have tried to purchase them in the past, but gave up due to lack of availability at my local stockists.

I notice Ford sometimes fit these as standard, so thats got to be a good sign.

I had the SportTrac on my old e39. Good tyres, grip was good and price wasn't too bad. I changed to another make (which had a good reputation for a good price - not sure if I can mention Kumho or not) as I got bored of all the stones that the Vreds picked up (as I live up a gravel track) and regret it.

Vredesteins were recommended to me by my local independent tyre specialist nearly ten years ago. Now I fit nothing else. Excellent tyres, wholly recommended.

The trouble with these 2 companies is as far as I can see they only do supply, and I find that buying online and then taking them to local fitter is not a good scheme, as they are immediately disgruntled and stick on as much cost as they can to fit them. I use Mytyres and they do the whole package quite well.

Find a local independent - £6 a corner at mine including a cuppa and a seat in his oily armchair while he fits them.

Not sure about Vredstein tyres, but I've now got Pirelli P7 on both our cars and they seem fine. Good grip and handling, wear rate appears okay as well. Approx £90 per tyre for A4, Passat's a bit more due to extra load rating and wider (both 16" 55 profile, Passat 205, A4 was 195).

You are lucky, I live in the thames vally, there aren't any 'nice' tyre fitters like this in my area !

Yes and no.

Vredestein are much better than a Chinese branded Linglong etc, night and day better.

The Ultrac Sessanta gets rave reviews but hasn't scored so well in the group tests this year. The Ultrac Cento gets equally as good reviews and has faired a little better in the group tests this year.

With everything tyres are a compromise and you by and large, do get what you pay for. There are some good deals out there and the Ultrac Centos are one of the better ones IMO.

Vredesteins were fitted on my MX-5 when I got it and I'm very happy with them. I asked our local indy who we've used for years about them, he rates them very highly but doesn't stock them.

I have been reading up a bit about Vredestein Tyres. Its a company who are very open to the public and with ambition. They employ about 1200 people in Enschede the Netherlands and are the only tyre company with their own design of a fully automated tyre build machine.
