I've been told by a helpful ex-VW garage that the announced re-organisation of dealerships is now under way.
VW UK's web site is not helpful about these changes.
I like VW cars but I am getting fed up with the dealers closing- three in the North Derbyshire / Cheshire area in the last 6 years. My Passat will need servicing in the next 2k and I do not want to put it in the hands of a digruntled garage just about to lose their franchise.
Any accurate information out there about the re-structuring?

GWS - my Passat was last serviced at a main agent that is very successful and not going to lose its franchise. The service was appalling, they removed the engine cover, trod on it and broke it, spilt old engine oil on it and then refitted it without wiping the oil off and then handed it over to me thinking I wouldn't notice. Finally got them to admit it all happened when they had the car but not easily. So, yes, you don't want a miserable git working on your car but I wouldn't assume you'll get decent service anywhere. My experience with VW dealerhips is they're pants and you have to insist on a quality of service and check every time! Only 1 service to go under warranty then it's off to an independent who believes in quality and service! Good luck.

Place your bets, gents. I give this thread 20 minutes.........

Why ? whats wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with it, but mention sauerkraut and frankfurters and it'll mysteriously disappear. Ask TOTH, he knows these things..........

>>Why ? whats wrong with it.
Nothing that I can see.

Sorry, Mark........must be missing something here. It's just that criticism of, or humourous refs to our sausage-eating chums on the mainland seems to trigger your delete button faster than a ferret down my trousers.
As I've said before, I'm easily confused.............

>>seems to trigger your delete button faster than a ferret down my trousers.
For the record I would like everyone to know that my delete button is unaffected by the possibility or reality of a ferret down your trousers.

Hi Glaikit
Can't recommend one of the largest VW dealers in N.Cheshire it seems to be staffed entirely by muppets.
My personal experience ranges from incorrect oil supplied for a PD engine, misold extended warranty, warranty work forgotten about until after original warranty expired, lost records relating to service history from computer, attitude from staff etc etc.
A work colleague asked me the other day if I had ever used them, when I asked why she had just obtained a Golf from them brand new and was experiencing many difficulties with them relating to a non functioning handbrake, duff fuel gauge and other items. In addition she was being seriously patronised by the service manager who seemed to believe that becuase she was a woman none of the faults she was experiencing could actually exist.
I am in the process of taking my experience of them up with VW UK.
As ever
Mark

And i can strongly not recommend another VW dealer in the Greater Manchester area ( south & north manchester)
Chargeable work done without asking customer, parts not returned when requested, warranty work not done when requested....

I would just like to say that I got great service from Keith Garage, the VW dealership in Aylesbury. Mind you, as I had an ancient Polo, I used to do most of it myself. I now have a Citroen and my experiences with Citroen dealerships have not been that brilliant thus far. I am glad I am not tied by warrenty to them.
If you find a reliable, inexpensive and honest garage, always be nice to them, pay up on time and send them a Christmas card each year. They are hard to find, but wonderful when you do.

Only a little point and worthy of consideration in the scale of things.
If you contact a garage unknown to you and you are told that they cannot make an appointment until many days later then your near the pot of gold. If however the reply is fetch it round now beware.
People do vote with their feet and stay away from those with bad names.
