Nissan Almera - When to replace brake discs - bigdavethehorn

Hello,

I'm interested in buying a particular Nissan Almera, and when checking the rear discs I noticed that there is a little lip on the face of the disc, at the outermost point of the disc.

In addition, the nearside calliper is fairly corroded. Should I ask the dealer to replace the discs, pads and calliper prior to agreeing to buy the car?

Thanks in advance.

The minimum front disc thickness is 20mm (as advised by Mr Haynes).

Unless you can accurately measure this before sale, I don't think there's much you can do.

Ok thanks, should I worry about the corroded calliper and the lip on the disc?

Whoops! I just re-read your post and realised you said rear.

Mr Haynes says the the original thickness on the rear is 10mm, but doesn't specify a minimum!

There's not much you can do about corrosion on a calliper, it doesn't indicate there's anything wrong with the internals. You could sand blast it and paint it red. ;>)

You're looking for warpage as well. With the lip, personally I would just sand it down! With the caliper, clean them with brake cleaner, apply grease to the piston as per what is detailed in the correct workshop manual.
