Tax and MOT 10 months

Full Toyota history

Spefication don't know standard I suspect.

Good tyres

3 door. Rare I understand.

1 previous owner which is the guy offering it to me for cash.

He tried trading it in but the garage offered him £3k! No demand for this miodel/state of the economy/just no call for 4 wheel autos you know the spiel.

No advert. Like a lot of people these days he doesn;t want herberts turning up at his house.

I'd guess it's because most people want a 5-door and some distrust used automatics.

Make sure you get an HPI check on it.

Toyota RAV4 04 plate - Too good to be true? - madf

Autotrader has these from £4k .. depends on mileage and speciifcation..

FULL HPI check essential.. I take it he has a permanent home address.

The only issue is some of these engines started burning oil at 50k miles and it's out of warranty..

So ask and check oil levels..

If OK, buy it.. If you like 3 doors of course...

think hes just selling it at a real world price.

.

my sister in laws just about to trade in her one owner full ford service history 1.6 (115) focus ghia for a Audi a3. they offer her £3200 the focus has 65k on the clock.

as you can imagine it'll be passed on to a local ford dealer 2k added to the price and sold on....(Audi dealer told her that)

chap i sit next to has just sold his petrol 80k golf 03 plate he got 2k trade in..again that will be priced up and sold on, the dealers have to add the vat/warrenty then profit.....

paul....

lots of private sales are dreamers...they see a car for sale at the local dealers and want the same price but offer none of the benifits of dealer purchase...

as long as you get it hpi etc checked out, it might be worth finding out if it needs some work, i often ring a dealer mentioned in the service record and say i'm looking at buying said car and is there any outstanding work required...ie sometime a dealer will have records of a fault, but the owner will say the cars not worth it and sell it on...

It is worth adding that even if you get the vehicle fully checked with HPI or Experian then you also need to jump through all the hoops detailed on their websites to benefit from the insurance cover that comes with the check or you will be on your own.

People make a lot of how complex these are but seeing the vehicle at the vendor's address, checking his ID and reconciling the VIN with the registration mark are all pretty much common sense and buyers of a privately sold vehicle should be doing them anyway.
Toyota RAV4 04 plate - Too good to be true? - Westpig

I know Lucy has virtually just said this..but in a more simplified form, because many people don't realise this...

...make sure that the vehicle you HPI check is in fact that vehicle and not a cloned vehicle, otherwise you are HPI ing something that will come up faultless, but is not in fact the car you are buying/ considering buying.

So if you think you are buying ABC 123D and HPI it and it comes up o.k...that is of no use to you if in fact it is really DEF 123D, but had the plates for ABC 123D on it.

HPI checks, like many things, are only as good as the information provided and if you provide the incorrect information even if you didn't know because you've been hoodwinked, then you can be seriously out of pocket.

In other words, check the VIN on the V5 agree with those on the vehicle and that the vehicle ones are NOT newly welded on...

It is worth checking where the VIN numbers are before you look..

(Sorry for the teaching grandmother stuff...)

How can the general public determine where the VIN locations are for a specific vehicle?

Toyota RAV4 04 plate - Too good to be true? - Collos25

Going back to the vehicle with the information given for a private sale in the UK its well overpriced here in Germany it may just fetch that price if were not an automatic as such it is pretty worthless.

Is it just me or does this discussion put you off buying a used car? :)

The last two cars I've bought have been new (factory ordered) and I'd rather do this and spread the cost over a few years than have the hassle and worry associated with sourcing a decent used car. The only exception would be a high mileage, good condition ex-company car with FSH at a good price (I've had a few in the past) - but even then I expect there are pitfalls nowadays!

Sigh :-)

There are LOTS of Owners Clubs where the gurus know everything one would want to know about a model..

It is easy to ask a question on each car you are interested in.

The wonders of the internet being explained by an old #### like me.

Try Toyota Owners Club for Toyota .

And Lexus Owners Club for Lexus.

etc

It's that simple.. :-)
