I have spare rimless new tyres and I won't need them for a good while yet, but in looking up how to correctly store them I can't seem to find a definitive answer, some sites say in a cold area on their sides others say upright cause they are not on rims and some even say hang them up.

So I'm wondering if someone can tell me what the real proper way to store tyres at home is.

Thanks

The only thing that really causes deterioration is ultra violet light and heat, so store them somewhere cool and dark, I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference which way up they were, I would store them laying flat.

Thanks for the reply, It'll be be a year or more before I need them so hopefully they'll be okay.

I don't know a definitive answer but if you look around at most tyre dealers they are stored in racks standing upright. Does that make it right to store them upright???

I think that's probably for ease of removal but its certainly better than stacking a whole pile up on top of each other.

I think it's best to store them upright. I've always understood that tyres stored flat for some time are difficult to fit. Apparently the beads 'droop' after time, and won't seal on the rim come fitting time. I've seen tyre fitters really struggle with uncooperative beads. It's the fitting that's the problem, once the're on and inflated everything is ok. I don't suppose it would do any harm to turn them now and then during storage.

Interesting, hadn't thought of that.
