vw bora - tyre wear on one side - wattie

the tyres are only wearing on the outer edge , but the odd thing is that it is on the nearside front and back, the other two are perfect on the offside, any ideas people.

I am guessing this is a toe out problem. Wheel alignment is necessary; This could be caused by incorrect adjustment, worn track rod ends, hub bearings, or damage to suspension components. If the vehicle was serviced, I would question the quality; otherwise this might have recently developed.

If its outer edge its towing in, but why only on ones side?

In my experience (over half a million miles in diesel Audi 80, Passat, Golfs IV and V and a Laguna 2) the outer edges of the nearside tyres wear quicker than the rest. For example, the rear nearside tyre on my MkV had to be replaced at 102k due to outer edge wear whereas the offside rear tyre went on to more than 120k with even wear. I presume it's something to do with roundabouts.

However, that said, if there is a dramatic difference in wear, then something isn't right...

If you're in the UK it could be due to the camber of the road. This pulls the car a little to the left and so you have to steer a little to the right.

Try swapping wheels from one side to the other (as long as the tyres aren't directional).
