Dear Sir,

Please could you take a look at the following facts and offer your opinion on what options are open to me.

My car is a Peugeot 206 HDI 1.6 3 door diesel (PG05 AKO). I have owned the car for 4 years; it has 76,000 miles on the clock and has been regularly serviced, by Perry’s of Nelson.

I have recently had several failures of the turbo system.

The first incident occurred several months ago on the 25 th of March, when the engine suddenly lost power and would not rev above 2500rpm. A local garage, Burnley Tyre and Battery, repaired the turbo and the invoice was broken down as follows:

To supply and fit 1 turbo/fit kit

1 filter oil

5 litres oil

Labour Total cost including VAT = £885.72

The second incident occurred, 29 th of April, exactly as the first, with the same invoice details and a total of £768.22 including VAT.

The garage sent the turbo back to the suppliers for inspection and they reported that there was no mechanical failure and therefore they would not replace the turbo. They intimated that it was a lack of oil to the turbo that had caused the failure.

I asked the garage how this could have happened as the oil and the filter had been changed, as per the invoice. When asked further the garage said that the oil pipe to the turbo had picked up some debris and had become blocked, causing the turbo to fail once again. They also stated that they had cleaned all the pipes to the turbo, and checked the oil flow to the turbo. I accepted the explanation and as advised took the car back to the garage on the 12/06/2010 to have it re-checked (I reported a small loss of power on the previous day). The garage kept the car over the weekend and on 14/06/2010 said that the turbo had failed again (for the third time).

I cannot continue to pay out money for new turbo’s and wonder if you could please advise what course of action I should take.

Yours faithfully

There is a company on Elland trading estate who have every possible piece of test equipment I would suggest you take it there or a similar specialist.A normal garage cannot set up a turbo correctly they do not have the skill or the equipment. In your case it looks like the actuator is not set up and is causing the turbo to fail but it could be many thinks.
